To think house seller needs to compromise

Accepted offer on my house within a few days of selling. Found onward purchase within a week. This was 3 weeks ago.

Sellers want to buy onwards, that is their choice, but they haven't actually been to view any properties yet!

I know what area they are looking, what my offer is and therefore how much roughly they can afford allowing for costs. Yes the market is a bit crazy, but I can see on Rightmove there are properties in that area within their budget.

AIBU to think they need to have at least some compromise and go and view some of these places? They may not be perfect, but I'm not going to wait forever and with the market as it is they can't just keep looking on Rightmove as their only strategy.

And to be clear this is not about them having bought a place, this is about them not even having viewed what is available.

Thanks in advance.

If they've sold their house they just need to move out, surely? Whether that's into temporary accommodation or buying somewhere, they need to not hold you and your buyers up by fannying on.

Yabu to be so nosey and presumptive. It’s not part of the deal to find anyone but yourself a new home.

Curious2021 · 12/06/2021 20:25

I think YABU as you don’t know what it is they’re looking for surely?

I can understand how frustrating it must be for you though and it’s precisely why I’ve not sold my house even though I want to move. I don’t want the pressure of a buyer snapping at my heels albeit understandably.

It’s the state the market is in atm unfortunately.

ItsSnowJokes · 12/06/2021 20:25

How do you know their budget etc..... they could have had an inheritance that means they can spend a lot more etc.......

How do you know they haven't viewed anything? We didn't tell the agent we were selling through everytime we viewed something. Only when we had had an offer accepted.

I don't think 3 weeks is that long to wait with how the current market is.

ProbablyProbing · 12/06/2021 20:27

I'd tell them you want to complete on X date whether or not they've purchased a place or you'll pull out and go elsewhere. They can rent, stay with friends or live on the street - it's not really your concern. There are cases of people (usually women in their 60s tbh) who drag this out for years. There's no point them viewing properties that they know they don't want (you don't know their requirements) but that's not your problem - for all you know they could be waiting out for the only house in that area with a pool to come up for sale and might be intending to keep you waiting for the next 25 years. Just be firm and say you want a date.

JagerPlease · 12/06/2021 20:32

Surely this is normal? Generally people don't look at properties until they're in a position to proceed, so need to wait until they've accepted an offer on their own property before they start viewings

EpitomeofAnOldBattle · 12/06/2021 20:34

Ugh, have fallen foul of people who don't really want to to sell/move a few times. I mean it's reasonable for it to take a month or so for them to find something if the market is very slow, but if you're on a tight schedule, I would recommend not investing any money in the purchase until they've found somewhere (no survey, no searches) and to be honest... keep looking. You might find an equally nice house that's chain free.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/06/2021 20:37

These people aren't motivated to move. I'd drop out now before they waste more of your time.

Mumsgirls · 12/06/2021 20:49

I would not have accepted their offer if they were not in a position to proceed. Some agents atm won’t even let you view if you have not sold .

The sellers were the ones who were doing the viewing so I do have a reasonable idea.

And I have a weekly update with their agent, so if they are viewing places then they should be telling the agent surely. But as far as the agent is aware they haven't had any viewings, which makes me question how motivated they really are.

But still ... you might know they need an X bedroom house in Y area up to Z budget but we all have particular things that are important to us when buying a home. So, a house that you could see and think is ideal for them might not be for whatever reason and whether that’s reasonable or not in this market when they’ve already sold is another thread but I don’t think it’s as simple as you’re making out.

The whole thing is a shitstorm atm, almost at a stalemate now where I am though. In this market it would almost be a smoother process if everyone found their onward move before selling then let the FTBs buy the end of chain houses.

Bluntness100 · 12/06/2021 21:20

Op. Yo just need to start talking about expected completion times and if they are willing to go into rented,
