Freaking out!! DD’s teeth

tututastic · 12/06/2021 17:13

Can anyone whose children have lost their teeth help me please? DD8 has been telling me she has a tooth loose for a while. She’s lost about 6 teeth so far, so I didn’t think much of it. No pain.

I just took a look and it’s the tooth AFTER her incisor on the top right (starting at the middle tooth and moving towards her molars). It’s almost out. Is that tooth supposed to shed???? I always assumed only the teeth between the incisors fell out.

I’ve tried googling but am too panicked to make sense of what I’m reading. Is she losing a permanent tooth??

@WoMandalorian

You should Google toddler skull teeth. You will see they have a full set below their baby teeth hidden away in their head! 😅
Now I already knew that they all come out and the adult teeth are just there waiting to come through. But I've just googled images of this and WOAH! 😳 I don't know why but I wasn't expecting it to look like that 😂
Pinkblueberry · 12/06/2021 17:57

This made me chuckle. Do some people have absolutely no recollection of their own childhood? I know kids loose all their teeth because that’s what happened to me 🤷‍♀️

MolyHolyGuacamole · 12/06/2021 17:58

@MasterBeth

Jeez, you might want to read up on periods before they start…

This is the least freaky picture I could find.
Google child’s skull with teeth if you want a more graphic picture!

Bless you OP everyday is a school day

Fightingfirewithfire · 12/06/2021 18:23

@Toottooot

Ok it’s not what she’s asking but not everybody loses all teeth. I still have 2 baby teeth that my dentist jokes with me about every time I see him. They’re going nowhere now. 🤣
Yep same here but most of my baby teeth are still in, it's just the front 6 that went to adult for me, I've even still got a baby tooth and the adult tooth is in front of it, however that's as I'm terrified of needles so refused to have it out, but they did try making the baby tooth wobbly with a brace. It failed to budge
m0therofdragons · 12/06/2021 18:25

This is in the red baby book they give you when you have a baby. It tells you rough ages they fall out too. My twins are very competitive and when dtd1 lost 2 teeth close together dtd2 hadn’t lost any and was jealous of the tooth fairy coming for her sister twice so she pulled out one of her back teeth! That child’s determination both impresses and scares me!

55378OO8 · 12/06/2021 18:34

If it makes you feel any better I didn't know about the 6 year molars and had a bit of a freak out when dds came through Grin

Librariesmakeshhhhappen · 12/06/2021 18:36

I'm sorry OP but this made me chuckle. It's how I imagine aliens would react if they raised human children and saw their teeth falling out!

We lose all our teeth then our adult ones come in and after that, you're playing for keeps.

Purpletomato · 12/06/2021 18:42

I grew a third set of teeth. Dad completely freaked out when the third set appeared. Lovely paediatric dentist removed the surplus over a few months.

SuperSecretSquirrels · 12/06/2021 18:43

DS currently has 2 full sets of teeth. The dentist going to start taking the baby ones out in the next couple of months. Poor lad looks like a shark at the moment with double rows of teeth next to each other, and tooth brushing takes ages.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 12/06/2021 18:45

Did you know puppies and kittens shed all their teeth too Grin

FurrySlipperBoots · 12/06/2021 18:52

Who's going to tell the OP about sharks...?

mam0918 · 12/06/2021 18:54

Of course molars fall out, I had an infect molar that was loose but wouldnt come out dispite the new tooth pushing it... I was 15 when it finally stapped the stubborn root and fell out.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/06/2021 18:55

Gosh!

How have you not read about that?
TBF I am the mother who saved all their baby teeth for sentimental reasons in little boxes in my dressing table drawer. And when we moved house when they were 17 and 20 happened across boxes of teeth and was horrified I'd kept them nasty little browning stumps of erosion

mam0918 · 12/06/2021 18:57

people mentioning extra teeth, I lost a baby tooth (naturally) and then the adult tooth (trauma) and a 3rd one grew... I have had many xrays and dont appear to extras of any others though, just a freak thing that Im happy happened.

VenusTiger · 12/06/2021 19:28

Are we allowed to laugh OP - now that you've discovered what's what anyway Grin
Have a look at some images online of skull xrays - your teeth are all there waiting to come through...

Oh my goodness my son had this too!!

He has only lost 2 baby teeth so far but the adult teeth came up many weeks before the baby teeth fell out, so it looked properly weird. I can't imagine having the full set of adult teeth behind the baby teeth, good luck for the removal!

Briarshollow · 12/06/2021 20:46

I’m glad Mumsnet could help but Christ almighty… 😂

Rosesareyellow · 12/06/2021 21:50

They also get wisdom teeth when they are around 20 remember, please don’t freak out again when that happens.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 12/06/2021 21:56

My mum only ever had her baby teeth. It is a well known condition called Anodontia and for people with that condition dental treatment is supposed to be free we were told because you will need treatment when the baby teeth fail.

My siblings have a less severe type where some teeth are missing. I was lucky enough to get all of mine and they are strong.

dementedma · 12/06/2021 22:00

How could you not know this?
