Snails pace at the Co-op

Just interested to see if this is the same in other places. We have 3 local Co-ops and in every one, the service is so slow! I find it quite amusing and usually just use the self service so not bothered by it, but my partner and a few friends get driven up the wall with it. There is actually a well known joke between locals that you go in a youngster and come out an OAP it's so slow! Is the Co-op like this anywhere else, or is it just my sleepy little town? YANBU - yes its slow and drives me mad, YABU - no its not slow at all.

It's slow because folks tend to bump into people they know. I always talk to the staff in a way I wouldn't in a large supermarket, it's a community store.

Ahhh the crap-op, I use one near work, spend half my lunch buying a bread roll, there's a massive queue of customers up the freezer aisle while 8 staff refill the shelves (though what with I have no idea because they are still empty), one person on the checkout at the opposite end to the queue chatting to Maud and Jim (who shop every day, at lunchtime) oblivious to the steam coming out all the customers ears. Our local sainsbury has closed and apparently opening as a co-op, should be interesting to see how much it changes.

I have two near me, both staffed by young/middle-aged men.

No self-serve tills and no chatting whatsoever. The problem is though that they dont even acknowledge you, they just carry on a conversation with their colleague while serving you.

I use 3 co ops. One the staff always seem fed up, one the staff are lovely but so slow. The one I use the most was always the most efficient until it got self service tills. There's never anyone behind the till so you end up either standing about like a lemon or going to look for them. As most customers want lottery tickets, fags, alcohol or gas/electricity top up the self service tills are mainly ignored.
