To think doing the job unsupervised does not count as "training"

I'm currently in training for a new job. Such training involved one day of being shown the ropes by a staff member followed by the next day being left to it alone. I had my manager there to ask any questions to but they were very busy so I felt like I had to just get on with it. I ended up making a few mistakes and have been criticised for doing so.

It's a complicated procedure with lots of room for error (and boy did I find out how easy those errors are to make today!).

I was told I would receive 4 weeks of training. AIBU to think this does not count as "training"?

That's not training, that's just arse covering so if you injure yourself/break something ect ect.

They can then turn around and say you were trained. :S

hard to comment further without an idea on the task.

The situation wasn't ideal, but your manager was there and you were told you could ask them questions. Next time you might need to be more assertive - don't "feel like I had to just get on with it", stop working and say that you want to ask them some questions.

But your manager was there to ask for help from. You chose not to do that.

You need to ask questions. It doesn't matter if they seem busy.

I did ask questions but I felt like they were so busy that they didn't answer properly so I had to keep going back to clarify things and ask further questions.

They ended up getting annoyed and becoming really curt.
