AIBU to ask what happens when an Author dies whilst writing the final book in an eight book series?

Robert Jordan died 10 books through a 12 book marathon of a series. He’d left plot notes and his wife worked with Brandon Sanderson to finish them. Hopefully something similar will happen.

Awful news about Lucinda Riley. I knew she’d had cancer but had no idea she was so ill.

I was so sad to hear this. I've just finished The Missing Sister. I hope that the series can be finished.

My favourite series is the Outlander books. Number 9 is out in November, its a 10 part series. It took Diana Gabledon 5 years to write the last one (they are huge books). She is 69/70 so am really hoping we get them all.

Wasn't she writing 9 and 10 almost in parallel? So the gap might not be that big. That's what I understood from the outlander reddit. And I absolutely refuse to believe she's 70. Just no way.

I know it's sad but I often think about Kinsey and wonder what she's up to now! In some ways I'm glad there was no "Z" as, like pp, I don't think any ending would have been entirely satisfactory and I'm sure I would have been disappointed. I have a sneaking suspicion that Sue Grafton may have actually engineered it this way, she was a fabulous author and every single one of the 25 books was brilliant - I remember the excitement of getting the book in my hands each time a new one was published and then reading it all in one night! Kinsey is one of my all time favourite characters and I'm happy re-reading them and dipping in and out without having an "ending" always in the back of my mind. Thank you Sue.

I wouldn't want a Z book by anyone else either, it wouldn't be the same.

Apparently Lucinda Rileys last few Books were dictated from her sick bed, and a good chunk of the 8th book has Been written, i’m sure they would have had a plan for how to finish the series.

What noo I love her books. Her writing is so well researched. Her 8th book is already written and will be published.

That's so sad. I'm selfishly glad the series will be finished but so sorry for her family.

@forinborin yep born 1952. Im not sure she has written in parallel. She is writing Raymond's story as well. But she does write in ' scenes' and stitches them together. Sometimes the scenes end up in later books. I watched a seminar she gave it was really good seeing her writing process. She does know how it all ends though and her son is an author so if the worst happened maybe he would finish them
