I understand that this is such a silly aibu but I've never got a pool for the kids before and just don't know what to do kids are 9 and 5yo twins.

I have bought two pools as I wasn't sure what to go for. a bestway 10ft 4700ltr round one which was £90 and included a filter and an intex 7ft by 5ft rectangular one 1650ltr which cost £110 but doesn't have a filter so would need to buy one. I don't have a huge garden so thought the rectangular one would be good as gives plenty of room for still running/playing in the garden. The 10ft one would take up much more room leaving not as much space for playing but still a fair ish amount of grass. I got them both as I thought the rectangular one would be good but then worried it may be too small but now thinking the 10ft is too big and I can't find a cheap ish 8ft one in time I need a framed one the fast set/inflatable ones are no good. It's my eldest birthday on Sunday and I promised a pool and bbq but have no idea what to do..

Yabu the 7x5 is more than big enough more playing room is better

Yanbu the bigger the better there's still plenty space to play

What would you do...

Blimey - how long will it take to fill a 4700 litre pool and how long can you leave the water? Are you on a water meter?

Floralnomad · 11/06/2021 21:19

I think the 7x5 one will be very small for 3 children to play in

Small with filter is good.

You realise you will have to be watching like a hawk any time that any child is in the garden? Kids can drown quickly and silently and any pool is dangerous

TicketyTickTock · 11/06/2021 21:22

I have a 9 and 5 year old and we had a 13 foot round one last year and it's too small this year. I'd go for as big as you can fit really.

TicketyTickTock · 11/06/2021 21:22

Whatever you choose needs a filter and a pump. You need to balance the chemicals every day.

fantastaballs · 11/06/2021 21:29

Do either one have a rigid metal frame? Because inflatable and the inflatable ring pools aren't worth anything. They die a death VERY quickly and soul water everywhere.

Either way, you need chlorine tablets, a floater, test strips, floculant and algaecide. The easiest way is to buy a pool starter kit. This means your water will stay bacteria free and weight be a breeding pool for germs.

Use the 10ft one. I have one it does take ages to fill so I start few hours the night b4 turn off when goto bed then hose bk on first thing in morning. The kids absolutely love plenty of room for swimming an big inflatables. Once there done playing grab a lylio and relax floating on it thats what I do haha. also if your in UK it's supposed to be boiling on Sunday so dc won't want to be running round playing.

Thank you all so much! The 10ft one has a filter pump with it so thought was an absolute bargain at £90 both have a frame. And I would absolutely 100% be watching the kids if they are in the pool. I have got the chlorine tablets and test strips too.
