You gave the baby a McFlurry?!

Parent was eating a McFlurry ice cream and gave 5 month old baby a couple of spoonfuls...

YABU - WTF?! He's only 5 months old. His digestive system isn't ready for sugar-rich ice cream! Cue upset tummy and exploding nappy.

YANBU - Get a grip, it's a million degrees at the moment and it was just a couple of spoonfuls. No harm done.

@eddiemairswife

My eldest was born at the end of October. On New Year's Eve he was given one drop of Champagne.
Why did you do that? You gave a 2 month old baby alcohol to ring the new year in? Honestly why did you do that?
CalishataFolkart · 12/06/2021 15:16

I always enjoy the diminishing measurements on threads like these.
“Two spoonfuls” becomes
“Two teeny spoonfuls” becomes
“A few dabs”

Then there’s “One drop of champagne.” How was it measured? Was there a special baby booze pipette?

cocoloco987 · 12/06/2021 15:40

. An ice cream is sugar overload. If you feed a baby ice cream it will adjust to having a preference for high sugar/fat foods because that’s a survival instinct (eat the highest calories). So in feeding a baby this kid of food so young, you are setting them up to be a fussy eater.

From TWO DABS of ice cream as a once off? Really?

Sorry, not on board with the champagne though. That's another level!

Well every 5 month old I've ever known doesn't manage more than a teeny spoonful - usually more like a dab for each mouthful. It's unlikely a McFlurry spoon would even fit in the childs mouth to swallow a whole spoonful down - plus the bits would be a chocking hazard

CoronaBanana · 12/06/2021 15:53

Loving that video of the baby grabbing the ice cream 😂🤣😂

SilverGoblin · 12/06/2021 16:16

She gave him a dab of ice cream not a lick of dog shit.

Primary ingredient... milk.

Milk has sugars and fats in it already...nothing unusual added there.

Other ingredients are likely in formula and/or baby food.

Some judgey fuckers need to get a sense of perspective.

A lick of ice cream is apparently a big deal, in a world full of disease, war, crime, injustice and discrimination.

This.

Or there was the thread about the woman smoking over her young baby in a pram. Would you prefer that instead? Or maybe she could feed the baby mcflurry whilst smoking a fag at the same time?

fashionablefennel · 12/06/2021 16:42

Not only we are on diminishing measurements, but we now have lengthy explanation over why McDo is just normal healthy food.

It would be funny if it wasn't so widespread we have an obesity crisis on our hands.

Of course, the children of every single MN poster are fit, skinny, healthy and fed junk food, yes, we believe you..

fashionablefennel · 12/06/2021 16:42

didn't realise it was mandatory to pick one.

SocialAffairsAndWoodlandFolk · 12/06/2021 16:46

When my daughters were babies, I think, looking back, I was overly uptight about weaning. However, compared to a good chunk of posters on here, I was so laid back I was entirely supine.
Is it the best thing for babies? No.
Will it harm them? Also no.
Should it make you livid? Enraged? Is it shocking, harrowing, tantamount to child abuse? Get a fucking grip.

TickyTacky · 12/06/2021 17:35

I want to put YABU simply for trying to justify your choice. What's done is done, internet validation isn't necessary. Kids used to be fed purely on condensed milk so I don't think it's too much of a big deal.

justlliloleme · 12/06/2021 17:50

We were all weaned at a much younger age than is r

justlliloleme · 12/06/2021 17:53

Sorry didn’t finish - we were all weaned much earlier than is recommended now & my girls were both on puréed food at 3 months. A few spoonfuls of ice cream isn’t going to do any harm.

Your child you do what you feel is right.
People think I was bad that both my girls went in their own room at 6 weeks old but I don’t care. They’re both happy healthy kids (well one is now a happy & healthy grown up now) & have not been scarred by things others judge as being ‘wrong’
You’re doing a grand job, keep going x

Hankunamatata · 12/06/2021 18:15

Does remind me of ds1 who uses to crawl along floor at babies and toddlers actually licking the floor - thos was in a school hall - vom

Mamanyt · 12/06/2021 18:21

Not the wisest idea, perhaps, but not the end of the world, either. And since it was the parent of the child who did it, any "fall out" will be on their heads. This is one of those, "Not my child, move on" moments. It certainly does not rise to the level of abuse. Just...not wise.

Bangolads · 12/06/2021 18:35

The baby will be fine. Everyday and it would be a different matter.

Bangolads · 12/06/2021 18:36

And as @justlliloleme says our babies were weaned at 3 months 🤷🏼‍♀️

Happyher · 12/06/2021 18:44

Years ago we weaned at 3 month and by 5 months my kids were on solids and an occasional mouthful of ice cream was not seen as bad. Not saying people shouldn’t follow current guidance but just be aware it won’t harm baby. My kids are adults now and are fit slim and well and never needed any dental work.

Fluff3 · 12/06/2021 18:45

I weaned my 3 kids at 3 months, as what was the norm then. I myself was weaned at 3 months. Has it done me or my kids any harm?, no it hasnt. I dont mean this in a nasty way but I dont think its any if your buisness what they decide to feed their baby. Maybe the baby has been on solids longer, maybe the baby is older than 5 months. Who knows, but it isnt up to you or anybody to judge

NerrSnerr · 12/06/2021 18:48

@Fluff3 the OP is the baby's mum so I think she knows how old they are! She wasn't judging people for giving their baby a icecream she was looking for validation.

SummerBreeze1980 · 12/06/2021 18:50

Obviously if this was the parent of the baby it is their choice and I'm sure a tiny amount can't cause much harm.

If my DC dad had given them ice-cream at that age I would have been quite upset as I was EBFing. My eldest didn't have a mini milk until 3, although his sister was 2. I think that is pretty normal - at least among my friends. Someone upthread said their baby didn't have an ice-lolly until 1 as she was super strict. To me that is very young and the opposite of strict. But every parent does what they think is best and most of the time that is fine!

Teachertired92 · 12/06/2021 18:54

Unless it’s your child it’s not your business

Fluff3 · 12/06/2021 19:26

Nerrsnerr, if you read the post correctly then no it wasnt the babys parent commenting, and anyway who cared like I said earlier it was common practice up to recently to wean a baby at 3 months andbit hasnt done my 3 kids, my parents, my grandparents or myself any harm whats so ever. All our teeth are intact, we arent over weight and we dont have any food intolerences.
