To ask for alcohol free drinks recommendations that aren't full of sugar?

I know I'm not being AIBU, am posting here for traffic.

I'm trying to lose weight and recognise that my 'glass' of wine on a Friday night soon turns into a bottle which turns into snacking on crisps and chocolate... so am cutting it out for the foreseeable but struggling with what to replace it with. So far we've tried:

  • sparkling water abs lots lemon and lime which ticks the low sugar box but a bit dull
  • schloer- so overly sweet
  • slushy iced mocktails made with berries - nice but a faff

Anyway would love to have some recommendations of adult type soft drinks or alcohol free drinks which are actually nice. I know there's Becks Blue etc which I had whilst pregnant years ago but wondering if there's anything more exciting- preferably that can be bought from Tesco today Grin
Thanks!

We like Nozecco (like Prosecco).

Angostura isn’t entirely alcohol free (nor some kombucha) if anyone has to avoid 100% of alcohol FYI

WellTidy · 11/06/2021 12:52

I like peach juice, sugar free lemonade and purred raspberries in a long glass, with ice and a few fresh raspberries.

Would a posh glass help you feel like you’re having more of a luxury drink? As these glasses from Dunelm are lovely. Maybe a flavoured tonic water with ice and some strawberries and mint might taste Pimms-esque?

Diet coke with ice and lemon?

Parkmama · 11/06/2021 12:57

Dash flavoured sparkling water, no calories, no sugar, no sweeteners. Nice over ice with some fruit / cucumber

Brewdog- I won’t buy from them. Disgraceful company.

I second rhubarb tonic.

I'm piping in to say nanny state too.

It is the nicest AF beer I have tasted, hands down.

They don't do it in my tesco though, which is one of the bigger 24 hour ones.

randomsabreuse · 11/06/2021 13:00

There's some alcohol free weissbeer options - hoegarten, Eislinger.

Also Peroni is a nice alcohol free lager. The alcohol free ciders are about double the calories of the beers which means I tend to stick to beer.

MumofTeens2021 · 11/06/2021 13:00

Radley is I believe the lemon lager the other poster mentioned. Delicious icy from the tap abroad and you do see it in bottles or tins in the low alcohol sections of Tesco's. Sometimes. You can get little tins of hard waters/spritzers which are flavoured fizzy alcoholic water basically. Can't recall brand name but they're not sweet. Beware fruit juices in general they're very calorific.

Freedamm alcohol free beer is lovely. The only one I really like.

Kombucha is also tangy and refreshing and low in cals and sugar. I really like the LA Brewery strawberry and black pepper one and they also do a sparkling rose one in a fancy wine bottle which is very nice for a Friday night.

Generally the rule of thumb is the clearer the drink the less sugar or calories, the darker the more. I stick to gin or vodka with slimline tonic, or vodka soda water and lime, Prosecco isn’t bad, mojito

Pollyanna58 · 11/06/2021 13:18

I make my own virgin mojito syrup. A couple or three of limes - juiced into a pan with the lime husks, a bunch of mint, half a pint of water and 2/3 large spoons of sugar. Simmer until the sugar has melted and leave for about an hour to steep. Strain into jug or container that you can keep in the fridge. Add sparkling water or diet lemonade, some mint leaves, a wedge of lime and a slice of cucumber on a one part to three. Worked for my pregnant daughter. You can double the quantities.

Try Komboucha from Go Komboucha or Real Komboucha. You have to order online so it doesn't solve your immediate problem, and it's not cheap, but it goes through a fermentation process so it feels like an adult drink. There's no rubbish in it, and it's got good bacteria in it so it's good for your gut as a bonus. It's sparkling and it's nice and dry, so not horribly sweet like the fake wines can be. Lovely in a big wine glass, ice cold from the fridge.

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 11/06/2021 13:42

Equal amounts of orange juice and slimline bitter lemon.

DirectionsForUse · 11/06/2021 13:44

I honestly have never found an alternative that's better than water or tea

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 11/06/2021 13:45

Soda folk cherry soda. Feels like an adults soft drink, not too sweet and not too fizzy, feels like a nice treat. Although I end up putting gin or vodka in it and going at the crisps so might not be what you're after!
