I’m usually really good at knowing these things but for some reason when it’s myself I always doubt my decisions!

I missed the bottom step and went over on my foot. Instantly lots of pain and thought I had broken it. After ten minutes the pain went off a little and I can weight-bare so I assume it’s not broken and start RICE.

However a few hours later I’m now in lots of pain. It’s the top and side of my foot not my ankle. I can weight bare still but when at rest the whole foot is throbbing and so painful. I think I would rather have labour contractions again than this pain!

I’m thinking trying to get through the night and get to minor injuries for 9am when it opens in the morning if it’s no better? A&E now would be difficult as it’s 30 miles away, I doubt I could drive myself, and we have a 2 and 4 year old in bed.

Ouch. Wait till morning and get someone to drive you. Hope it’s not too serious.

SkySmiler · 10/06/2021 23:43

I would wait too, ice, ibuprofen if u can, leviate and rest as much as possible for tonight

CoffeeRunner · 10/06/2021 23:46

Do you have a local minor injuries unit?

This is exactly what they are for.

Yes we do about 5 miles away but due to cut backs it’s not 24 hours so doesn’t open till 9am. I will get DH to drop me off there in the morning and then get a taxi home after.

I’ve done exactly this and it turned out I’d broken it - but if you feel you can wait till tomorrow then that’s what I’d do.

ItsAllOrangeAndYellow · 10/06/2021 23:55

Have you had pain relief?

I think levitating might be pushing it, the poor woman is in pain. Op I'd still to elevating it 🤭

You'll probably get a fuller service tomorrow if you can get through the night. Ours doesn't run X ray overnight for example unless it's an emergency. Ibuprofen and paracetamol alternated every 4-6 hours and hopefully you'll sleep

PurpleSunrise · 11/06/2021 00:03

Agree with others, if you can bear the pain overnight!

StiffyByng · 11/06/2021 00:07

That's how I broke my foot too - there are some tiny bones in the side of your foot that are fairly easy to break. I really couldn't weight bear when it happened to me but I was told people often did walk on that particular fracture.

Rest it until morning, don't walk on it again, and go to Minor Injuries at 9am.

My money is on torn ligaments.
I have left mine overnight before and it’s been fine but you must check for pooling of blood under the skin. You wouldn’t want to leave something that could need surgery.

Syylvia · 11/06/2021 00:09

I've done similar, gone over on my ankle. Been in agony and unable to walk. I kept the foot elevated overnight and used ice packs and painkillers, and by the morning it was fine. Hopefully it might feel better by the morning, if not then maybe get it seen.

Namaste6 · 11/06/2021 00:29

Ouch OP. I've done that and it turned out to be torn ligaments. Excruciating pain. Keep doing what you're doing and head to the hospital first thing. 🙏

Santastealer · 11/06/2021 07:30

Thanks everyone! It’s so much better this morning, still a bit sore but nothing like the pain last night.
