To hand in my notice via email?

I know it's good form to resign to your managers face, typically (or by video call in our workplace just now) - but I can never get to speak to him these days, which is one of the reasons I'm leaving (poor management and feeling undervalued).

I was due to speak with him today - just for a routine chat and a catch-up, as he's cancelled our supposedly weekly meetings repeatedly for the last few weeks - but as usual, he's pushed our conversation back and back and back until I don't even know if we'll speak at all today.

I want to hand in my notice though - would it be wrong to simply email it to him and copy in HR? I'd like to think he'll drop everything to call me when he sees it, but I won't hold my breath.

I have a fab new job where I'll actually matter. Smile

Last time I handed in my notice I emailed my manager whilst sat next to him because I felt too awkward to tell him to his face!

@PattyPan hahaha! I must admit that although I did it over Teams, I couldn't look him in the eye for much of it.

I've heard nothing from anybody yet, no fervent promises of change or better shaped responsibilities, blah blah blah. Email with letter attached poised to be sent. My expectation, based on experience, is that I won't hear anything at all!

Email is fine in these circumstances. Copy to HR.

Say as little as possible. Don’t give a reason. You never know they may move jobs too and you may meet again one day!!

“Please take this as formal notice of my resignation. My last date in the office will be X. Apologies for doing this by email but unfortunately we haven’t had the opportunity to meet in person to discuss. It has been a pleasure working with you and I hope our paths cross again in future.”

Yanbu. Have had to do this myself before as was offered a new position and all our managers were on leave at the same time! We have a 1 month notice period that only kicks in when written notice is given and I didn't think it was fair on me to delay that.
