Should he have washed his hands?

DH was pottering in the garden, nothing heavy just pulling a few weeds and dead heading a few flowers. He came in and started to unload the dishwasher, I said "shouldn't you wash your hands?" He looked at me like I was crazy.

His hand weren't visibly dirty but surely they needed washing. Personally I was my hands every time I unload the dishwasher. If I'm going to touch all the things we eat off and eat with I want clean hands.

AIBU?

Hiw do you "wash" a strawberry without ruining it? A rinse under the tap isn't going to clean it effectively. I rinse them, mostly to get the dust off, but I'm not going to kid myself they're "clean" like hand washing for 20s with soap.
Put them in a sink of water with vinegar in it. This makes stuff last longer too.

I would wash my hands and actually more thoroughly than normal. There's so much invisible stuff that gets transferred from the garden and will end up in your stomach. I wash my hands throughout the day, and always on return from being out. It feels really dirty to get sweaty germs all over freshly washed cups or clean door handles or anything I'm touching that will then sit there harbouring a layer of germs for the next hand to pick up..... So the thought of doing gardening and then unloading the dishwasher?! Filthy.. It only takes ten seconds every now and again. (And no, my house is not pristine, infact it's bit tatty around the edges but I live in a clean manner so you won't touch anything grubby!)

Ah OK, all these obsessive handwashers are soaking their soft fruit in vinegar. That must be it.

I'm not obsessive at all. I'm pretty slovenly actually, but theres certain things that are common sense, like washing your hands after touching dirt and washing things you consume that have been touched by god knows what and how many people and could have had all sorts sprayed all over it.

Out of interest, what are you expecting the vinegar to do? Don't just say to clean the fruit Wink
