AIBU to wonder how so many non parents end up on Mumsnet?

I see loads of posts from people without kids, older people with grown up adult kids etc and always wonder how they ended up as a poster on a mumsnet forum? Just feels a bit random to me.

Indeed 😆 It amuses me. They must be regularly refreshing every thread over there!

DW to MN using DH- What are you looking at on the computer?'

DH-'Just telling everyone on MN all about what you like to do in bed, I'm helping them you see'

DW Confused Shock

I have been on here for a couple of years, and have no kids. I'm planning on ttc in a few months though, should I go away and come back next year? Halo

ChangePart1 · 08/06/2021 13:15

I joined about six years ago when I was considering TTC with a partner at the time, initially found the pregnancy boards and learned all about ovulation, I had no idea you could only get pregnant once per month haha.

I then split with said partner and stayed. I have a child now, but if I didn't I'd probably still be on here. I enjoy AIBU and chat and the Relationships board.

If you can post a picture of your newborn when the time comes then you might be allowed back in. Grin

Whereas I have no objection to childfree women on here I am not keen on men being on here. I expect I am in the minority however.

Mmmcheese89 · 08/06/2021 13:31

I joined mums net because I don't have parents. Yes I'm an adult and no I don't have children but sometimes you need some wise words and advice when you're not comfortable asking a friend or colleague. So thanks everyone for being my parents.

@Keepingitreal14 gosh it must be very difficult being you. Do you ordinarily get confused by obvious things? Surely you could’ve just looked at the contents page and see all the categories and that would’ve answered your question. Was it genuinely so confusing to you you needed to start a thread on it?

Do you need to have a lie down if you happen to see a grocery store selling a packet of colouring pencils as it’s not food ... but it’s in a grocery store.. so most people are there for food..mind blown 🤯🤯🤯

Isababybel · 08/06/2021 13:49

I used to enjoy reading AIBU and all of the classics quite a few years ago, pre dd. There also used to be a 'drunk thread' on chat on friday nights which i found amusing, quite miss it as haven't seen one for a long time now Grin

Mabelene · 08/06/2021 13:53

Distinct lack of imagination there op

MissChanandlerBong90 · 08/06/2021 13:53

I started visiting MN when I was trying to conceive - I wasn’t a parent then, but I am now.

@Manzanilla55 - I’m with you, because many of the men who are on here seem to be here because they really hate women.

There’s a sex board??

ABitOfAShitShow · 08/06/2021 14:08

Has this not been done to death at this point?! Hmm

Apparently @Keepingitreal14 has never seen this exact thread which is posted every few weeks and was totes super genuinely confused. She is also now finding it annoying that people are reply to her thread pointing out the obvious Confused @ABitOfAShitShow

Seriously why would I post something I’ve seen numerous times before?! Hmm

I found Mumsnet when I was sourcing things for a building project at home. I think it was ideas for kitchens and bathrooms that brought me here originally. I've stayed to be part of some great Telly Addicts groups, found support and sympathy on the Doghouse thread when our boy was PTS, wept with laughter on some threads, shed tears on others and have learned to properly articulate my feminist views. I don't have kids though, is that ok ? Smile

Did you find the Sex Topic? Did the sexperts sort you out?

Even if you haven't seen it before, why did you want to start a thread questioning why certain people are on this site? What's it to you?
Keepingitreal14 · 08/06/2021 15:52

It wasn’t a question of why they are here, it was how they found them self on what is described as a parenting forum, like what made them think / look on a site aimed at mums / parenting. Many people have answered that mumsnet is brought up on many many Google searches. That answered my question pretty well.

AlwaysLatte · 08/06/2021 16:00

I think most people find MumsNet by googling a specific issue or topic. If you look at the topics there are many that don't have anything to do with kids. You don't need to be a parent to chat on the gardening bit, eg. But it's such a wide ranging forum I sometimes wonder if it could have a different name, like LifeNet or FamilyNet or something as the name might make some people feel they shouldn't join.

MissConductUS · 08/06/2021 16:01

I found MN about four years ago when The Economist ran a small article about it. It's pretty unknown in the US. My kids were midteens then. Both are in uni now.

I'll get my coat.

Cravendale · 08/06/2021 16:02

Why is it any of your business?

Do you think only people who have young children can give advice?

You are very judgemental Karen !
