Just diagnosed with cateracts in my 30's

I've been really unwell this last month, vivid last year and lots of random health issues since.

Anyways been having these awful episode's of white vison loss, double vison and numbness down my left side.

I ended up in hospital as I had a really bad episode suspected stroke, so far tests are are pointing towards some kind of bad migraine, I was referred to an urgent eye clinic and today he said my eyes are almost 20/20 slight deteration in the eye with the white vison loss at times but this is a brain issue and I need an MRI.

Then he said that I have early stages of cateracts in both eyes that is very unusual given my age, I'm in shock really!

I've never heard or known of this in a young adult. I'm happy my eyes are ok so to speak and there is treatment for cateracts, still nervous to wait on MRI to rule out degenerative diseases (consultant words)

Anyone had covid and had eye issues, or anyone had these strange migraines or cataracts?

I'm 30 and have had cataracts since the age of 18 because I have type one diabetes and didn't look after myself as a teenager. They progressed quickly and I had my worst eye operated on when I was 24. I found the op traumatic as the cataract was deep and my recovery was difficult. I am not having the other eye done until I absolutely have to. I have retinal damage too and am short sighted so I've just gotten used to having crap eyesight at this point. I'm monitored closely and my eyes have been fairly stable for a while now. Sorry OP my reply was probably a bit doom and gloom and not very helpful. I hope everything is OK for you!

I had a retina detachment a few years ago so had to have eye surgery including a lens replacement, then this year developed a cataract over the new plastic lens which is really common. Had laser surgery to fix it last month.

The lens replacement I found really straight forward and painless and when I had it it was combined with keyhole surgery on my retina so was longer and more complicated than a standard lens replacement.

Plus they gave a light sedative when I had the surgery done which made me feel really calm and content, it was lovely 😁

The laser last month was literally 5 minutes of sitting at a machine while they shone a light in my eye, it was just like a normal visit to the optician but with a slight popping noise from the machine every few seconds.

Sorry not a direct answer to your question - but I was born with cataracts, had the worst one ‘done’ when I was a child then the other one started growing a couple of years ago (late 30s) so have had that one done. It’s fine now and I don’t even need glasses (as they set the lenses differently and the newer one is a fancy pants multi focal one).

If you’re seeing almost 20/20 at the moment, you won’t need treatment for cataracts.

There can be a few reasons for developing cataracts - otherwise known as lens opacities such as high dose steroids, previous concussion or trauma or some children are just born with slight cataracts.

TBH if you’re not causing any major visual loss, I wouldn’t be too worried about them and concentrate on the other symptoms you’re having.

Mine were done under general as it can depend on the cataract but mine were sort of deeper (common when you’re born with them apparently).
