Cervical stitch- please help knot has fallen out

Hi,

I’m 25 weeks pregnant and desperately hoping someone on here might be able to keep me company & advice while I’m waiting to be seen. Posting on AIBU for traffic

I had a stitch placed in at 23 weeks due to cervix shortening. All went fine but Today I’ve been to the toilet and found a piece of the stitch (a small stringy but and a knot) had fallen out on my sanitary towel.

I called MAU and they’ve asked me to come in for 9pm so a specialist dr who is only around then can scan me to see what is going on. Outwardly I am calm bcos I know there is nothing I can do but I am freaking out. I can’t lose another baby

Has anyone experienced this? Did a part of your stitch fall out and everything was ok?

I’ll start making my way in at 8pm- that’s 3 hours I am going to sit here and worry and think about what’s is going on down there.

Hey I’ve not been through this but wanted to say I hope everything turns out well for you. Is anyone going with you this evening?

Foxhasbigsocks · 07/06/2021 17:23

Op I’ve had a previous pg loss albeit first trimester so have at least some experience of mc. I’m so sorry you are having this stress and sending you Flowers

Is there anything you could watch just to try to distract yourself a tiny bit, even if it 100% won’t work. Can anyone come over to be with you?

If you want support in the meantime there is out of hours support from the Miscarriage Association:

“Our staffed pregnancy loss helpline is available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide support and information on miscarriage and pregnancy loss.

Outside those hours, our answerphone message will give you the name and contact number of a support volunteer – someone who has also been through pregnancy loss and can offer a listening ear. S/he will be available until 10 p.m..”

Thanks guys. My husband is with me. We’re sitting in the garden and trying to pass the next 2.5 hours but we’ve barely said 3 words to each other so I know we are both thinking about it.

Husband will be driving us in later. 9pm can’t come quickly enough.

I tried googling piece of stitch falling out and couldn’t find anything so it mustn’t be common is what I am thinking. Or maybe it is. Either way a knot has come kit which makes me wonder what is happening / keeping the rest of the cervix closed

@foxhasbigsocks I'm sure you're trying to help but why are you posting miscarriage/pregnancy loss support groups?! The OP doesn't even know what's going to happen yet. Talk about pessimistic!

OP I don't have any advice with the stitch but I'm glad you have your DH with you for support. I hope it all works out ok 💐

Foxhasbigsocks · 07/06/2021 17:41

@sparepantsandtoothbrush because personally I accessed Mc support to help me with my anxiety about baby loss in a subsequent pg. I got incredible support and it was very useful to me

Foxhasbigsocks · 07/06/2021 17:41

Really really glad DH is with you op and thinking of you Flowers

Hi, sorry for the late update - annoyingly I’ve had a fair bit of other pregnancy issues going on too!

Thankfully everything is ok. The dr who saw me also did cervical stitches and confirmed the thread I had brought it was indeed a stitch they used but for women after labour and not for a cervical suture. She was confused and did a speculum - all fine there. She then read the procedure notes and found out the consultant who had done the stitch had used two types of stitches. The main one for the cervix is the usual thick band which is still intact and the other white-ish one that fell out was used as a precaution (I think) and doesn’t mean anything bad is happening with the cervix.

I asked if this was common and the dr said she’d never seen this before.

Very glad it doesn’t mean my body is going into labour! I did have a cry when I found it bcos I thought that’s it, it’s happening and it freaked me out.

Thank you all for messaging me and the well wishes. X
