To be worried about starting a new job when I need to have an operation?

I’m due to start a new job on Monday but I’ve just been told I’m (finally) near the top of the waiting list for a laparoscopy and excision for suspected Endo. Consultant said it’ll likely be July.

I’m on one hand so happy but on the other really anxious because of the new job. I don’t know whether I can ask to be put on the list for September ( I have no idea if this is even possible, probably not) in order to give me a chance to settle in to my new job? I’m worried they’ll get rid of me if I tell them I might need an op next month!

The consultant said you get 2 weeks off but this new job is fully remote so I’m wondering whether I can get away with just having a few days/ week off? It’s keyhole survey so not too invasive?

AIBU for worrying? WWYD?

I'd get onto either your manager and/or HR and be upfront from the start.

The timing is unfortunate but given that waiting lists have only just reopened posit covid, there's little anyone can do. If it's on the NHS, you clearly need the treatment, they wouldn't be offering it otherwise and your health and/or fertility depends on it.
