…boob lumps?

I found a lump in my boob recently. Scared the absolute shite out of me as it was accompanied by pain. Turned out it was all tickedy boo(b) and was just glandular tissue. It was obvious as I don’t have much in the way of boobs. It’s not the first lump I’ve found as I’ve previously had cysts.

I check my boobs religiously every month (early 30s), one week after my period. Laying down, arm up, the lot. The doctor told me that most women confess to not checking regularly.

I have to confess to being really shocked by that and when I asked my friends, they all said they almost never check, apart from a cursory once over every now and then.

Is that normal? How often do people check? If you don’t, why don’t you?

Maybe once a month or so. But thank you for the reminder!

I’m in for surgery this week to remove a soft cancerous lump that showed up on the mammogram. If I hadn’t gone for the regular screening I would never have known about it. It’s deep inside and would’ve been difficult to feel, and I never check my breasts !

Just respect women and let them make their own decisions to check or screen.

I get my DH to do it for me, as he enjoys it more than I do Grin

I rarely used to check. I'm 38. I mean I would have a quick prod every now and again in the shower as a friend was diagnosed at the age of 26 so it's always in the back of my mind. Plus my breasts are tiny so I figured anything ominous would be very obvious.

But recently I had some pain in one breast and did a more thorough check with lots of poking and prodding. It took a while but I found a little pea sized lump. Honestly, any other time I don't think I would have even noticed it - even then I wondered if I was touching rib. GP had a poke and definitely felt it and now I'm waiting for my US and mammo and possibly a biopsy. Dropping absolute bricks here, and whatever the outcome, I will now set a reminder on my phone for monthly, thorough checks. I feel like a complete idiot not doing it before; things can change in an instant.

Most days, lost my mum and nan to breast cancer. I'm 30 and my mum was only a few years old then I am now when she found hers. My nans was 55 when she died.

Checked for the first time in about 3 months and found a large hard irregular unmovable lump. Dr very concerned and waiting for my proper results currently. Glad I checked as have a 6 & 10 year old that need me to do everything I can to make sure I am there for them.
