I don’t want DH to have the vaccine...

His covid jab is due today.

But he’s had a massive allergic flare up after working in the garden yesterday, all his arms are red raw and covered in hives/welts and bleeding where he keeps scratching.

I want him to postpone the vaccine.

I’m not sure it’s safe to have a vaccine that presumably involves the immune system when his immune system has just gone crazy.

I would let the HCPs at the centre give their advice.

DinosaurDiana · 06/06/2021 13:01

Has he taken an antihistamine or used antihistamine cream ?

Firstbornunicorn · 06/06/2021 13:01

Wouldn’t it be a good time to have the vaccine as his immune system will focus on the new threat and presumably his allergy symptoms will reduce?

DinosaurDiana · 06/06/2021 13:02

And I would still give it.

TheDiddlyGang · 06/06/2021 13:06

He has had an antihistamine tablet and we’ve creamed it.
It’s not making much difference tbh

Just let them know at the centre he is having it and they will be able to advise

lovingllamaa · 06/06/2021 13:08

Unless his appointment is ages away he should just go and if it’s not appropriate to get it then they won’t let him have it.

BingBongToTheMoon · 06/06/2021 13:10

The vaccinating staff will assess him at the centre and they’ll decide if he has to reschedule or not.

reallyreallyborednow · 06/06/2021 13:10

Has he been in contact with giant hogweed? Or other irritant plant? It may be a toxic reaction rather than an allergic one, especially is anyihistamines aren’t making a difference

NailsNeedDoing · 06/06/2021 13:12

I’d postpone. Even if it’s safe for him to have the vaccine, it could make a very uncomfortable week if he’s one of the many people that has a couple of days of feeling crap because of the side effects. The people at the centre probably won’t consider that, their aim is just to get as many people as they can vaccinated as soon as possible.

partyatthepalace · 06/06/2021 13:16

There are nurses and a GP on duty at the vax station, let them advise.

KarmaStar · 06/06/2021 13:18

It's not your decision.leave it to the trained medical staff.Don't try to stop him going.

TheDiddlyGang · 06/06/2021 13:19

Has he been in contact with giant hogweed?
No.
Or other irritant plant? It may be a toxic reaction rather than an allergic one especially is anyihistamines aren’t making a difference
I don’t think so.
It was brambles and hedging he was cutting.
But we did see loads of strange caterpillars, extremely bristly/hairy orange and black ones.
I flicked one off his back, we saw 4 more crawling around at different points in the garden.
I don’t know if he maybe brushed against some of them?

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 06/06/2021 13:21

It might be the caterpillars which would be toxic not allergic reaction I assume.

If his arms are so bad they will notice before they inject him won’t they?

TheDiddlyGang · 06/06/2021 13:23

If his arms are so bad they will notice before they inject him won’t they?
Unless it’s gone down by then.
The reaction started late last night, his appointment time is early evening

OP posts:
BlueDucky · 06/06/2021 13:23

They'll advise once he gets there.

No, they're medical professionals who will ask him about allergic reactions. I know this because I've just come back from having my vaccination.

Their goal is to vaccinate safely.

Blossomtoes · 06/06/2021 13:29

We’re all experts these days! The highly trained real experts won’t vaccinate anyone who they assess might be damaged by it.

TheDiddlyGang · 06/06/2021 13:30

Like these?
Yes!!
Brown tail caterpillars!

OP posts:
Disfordarkchocolate · 06/06/2021 13:45

He can ask for advice at the centre, I had to speak to 3 people about my allergies before mine. They were used to it.

Nohomemadecandles · 06/06/2021 13:48

Ask the professionals not the Internet! Assuming he is a grown up who can ask them himself

ApolloandDaphne · 06/06/2021 13:57

He can mention it when he gets there surely? He's a fully grown adult.

pointythings · 06/06/2021 13:59

He needs to tell them about the caterpillars and the allergic reaction and they will assess. It's possible they will offer to give him the vaccine but observe him for a longer than standard period, or they may tell him to defer.
