Hi,
Sorry not sure if this is the right place to post, is anyone familiar with the area of Dormansland near Lingfield? Viewing a house there and keen to know more about what the area is really like as it is unknown territory for us! Thanks!

When did they change the line from Thameslink? I used to commute on the East Gristead line daily pre-COVID.

Thameslink - from memory I used to go to London Bridge, and cross the platform (or same platform) to get Thameslink to Farringdon

@Thedogscollar

My brother and his family live in Dormansland at The Platts. I love visiting them, it's so beautiful there. Lovely pubs around that cater for family dining. Beautiful scenery as seen in Shanniths photos.
They are my neighbours then Grin
@Shannith Thanks again for replying, ok that’s good to know that although the actual village is small the towns are really nearby. Was a bit worried it might be too rural for us.
Sorry one more question (!!!) does it feel safe, particularly when walking around the countryside etc, do you encounter lots of other people as you walk or could you go miles without seeing a single dog walker?
Thanks so much for all your info, you’ve been so helpful and nice! xx
It's the safest place I've ever lived. And I've lived in some naice places.

If you walk round the golf course side of the village you'll see people out and about in the woods, walking, running etc. And golfers obviously though it's a quiet local course.

The farmland way (up by the Plough pub) is less well trodden though you still see the odd dog Walker/riders - lots of bridle paths.

I often walk the dog for miles and miles on my own and also run on my own and have never had a moments worry. I'm actually going on a night walk in the woods this week - with a friend, mostly so we don't fall in ditches.

Once you get up into the higher land, if you want you can not see another soul.

However, it's Surrey not the wilds of Scotland so there is always civilianisation and people about.

It was as good a place as any to be locked down. Very easy to get off the beaten track but very safe and you are never really in the middle of nowhere - just some woods in Surrey Grin

The London Bridge trains are thameslink but the standard (most frequent) trains are southern CIA Victoria.

Only get London Bridge trains in the morning / otherwise you have to change at Victoria.

Bonus points if you get that.

It's not that rural in that you get cut off when it snows. Though the trains may be interfering.

I describe it as semi rural but as I say, it's Surrey not Wales. Still only 3 miles from a McDonald's

I used to be a reporter on the illustrious East Grinstead Courier and Dormansland was one of "my" villages. I can remember it was a very sleepy place and everyone was lovely!

Dobbyisahouseelf · 07/06/2021 21:50

I'm not a million miles from Dormansland but I don't know the village well. When my DD was younger she went to plenty of parties at Manic Monsters which is a rural soft play centre in Edenbridge. There is a small high street in Edenbridge so bank, post office etc but they do have a decent Waitrose.

Good luck with your house hunt! Let me know if you move here (if you want!)

HappyDaysToCome · 07/06/2021 23:14

Oooo we’re all moving to Dormansland now! Sounds lovely.
