Workmen drinks and snacks

We are having 2 workmen come to do about 4 days work at our house. My husband says they don't need anything but I'm thinking about ordering cans of drinks and snacks like biscuits and crisps. Should I be providing these things? Will the do a better job for us if I keep them well fed and watered?

So is it unreasonable to just give basic drinks or should I be getting a few things in for them? And will we get a better job done by going the extra mile for them?

I have ordered hobnobs, KitKat's and some foxes creams that were on offer, cans of 7up and Coke zero, sugar and some extra squash. I don't behave any room in the freezer but when I do I'll pick up some packs of icelollies too.
I'm sure they will be able to use the toilet in a reasonable manner and they are welcome to use it and my kitchen.

My dad's a ceramic tiler & gets a little miffed if he's not offered tea at all during the day. It's certainly nice being offered snacks, but for my dad, btea is the winner ☺️

VanGoghsDog · 05/06/2021 23:24

Tea/coffee, squash and a KitKat is what mine get.

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 23:27

Access to the kettle, with tea, coffee and mugs left out. And lots of biscuits.

Tbh the last few tradesmen I've had in have said no thanks to biscuits as they're watching their weight or doing the 5:2 eating plan.

You all sound like you are talking about animals you want to attract to your water feature. Jfc.

@Coffedoodah

I would ...

I mean, they're not going to do a SHIT job if you don't ply them with drinks and snacks, but you often find they will give a little bit more, and go over and above the call of duty to help and accommodate you, if you are nice to them.

That's not the reason I am nice to workmen by the way, and I would be anyway, whether they were overly helpful, or whether they just did their job.

Tea coffee when you're making a drink. Water too in hot weather. No snacks, definitely no lunches!!??? Wtf?? You're paying for a service to do a specific job its not a hotel!

I would never have anyone in my home without offering at least a drink. If someone is here over a meal time they are offered whatever we are having but I'm not sure that is the right thing with workmen.

So a pack of hobnobs, some cold cans of drink, squash, water and coffee/tea are all pretty normal but more than that isn't expected or needed. I have also ordered some air freshener and strong toilet cleaner for the downstairs loo and some paper hand towel I have fear of what they could do to my toilet seeing as I have seen Mumsnet posts saying they don't allow tradespeople to use their toilet!
Wtf do you think they will do to your toilet? Super shits and fire piss Grin
Serpenta · 05/06/2021 23:49

Certain factions on MN seem to think tradespeople's shit is turbo powered compared to civilian shit.

I put bottles of water and cans of juice in a coolbox with a note asking the workers, to have something if they wish. Workers have brought their own food.

hellogem · 06/06/2021 00:11

In my experience, watering them doesn't result in a better job. However I still offer drinks and snacks to my workers. We had a months worth of work done, I updated the snack and drinks daily for them, also gave them access to kettle and fridge.
For jobs that are a days worth or less, I will offer hot/cold drinks and snack. Mostly the snacks get turned down but they very much appreciate a drink

Duchess379 · 06/06/2021 00:11

Lol, my dad never expects dinner but a cup of tea is a winner. ☺️

Coffedoodah · 06/06/2021 00:26

I have seen so many people talk about bad experiences and people hiring portaloos for them and not allowing them into their house! That's not me I'm ok with non family using the loo it gets bleached every night regardless.
