AIBU to want my shins to tan at the same rate as the rest of my body?

Why oh why won't my shins go brown ffs? My feet do. My knees and thighs do. But my shins are white stubborn bastards and will not tan. I'm so cross! I'm using Nivea protect and bronze. F30 or F20 depending on which bottle I find first.

Mine too. I have to endure being called "Milky Milky" by DH whenever I get my legs out 🙄 Comfort trumps all for me, so I suck it up, ignore the comments and put on the shorts, but it's really annoying none the less. Even 2 weeks in equitorial sun makes little difference. By September they will be gently tanned, just in time to cover them up again...

@Gunpowder

I can never tan mine either. So annoying. I remember in the 90s seeing a sunbed that was just for legs. I wish there was a non melanoma causing version of that.
That would be brilliant.

I have found my people. Two years ago on our first hot holiday I burned everywhere and my legs were still white. Now I'm very fair but do tan to a decent shade but the legs just stayed super white.

On my last holiday I thought I had it all figured out. Factor fifty to start every where else, started with 30 on the legs. Went to a twenty all over, arms and shoulders browned nicely, thighs too.....shins - still white

In one photo it looked like I was wearing white knee socks.

I don't shave. I have very unhairy legs
Well that's your problem right there - your leg hairs have an SPF of about 500 Grin
LondonStone · 05/06/2021 19:42

I’m completely the same! I had heard it was because of shaving but if you don’t shave your legs maybe that’s just a myth. It’s so annoying though. Grin

I read somewhere (will google) that we have hardly any melonin (not sure that's the right word) on our lower legs, hence the lack of tanning.

MissChanandlerBong90 · 05/06/2021 21:36

I honestly thought I was the only one. My thighs and knees and feet tan but my calves stay milky white. It’s a revelation to find out I’m not alone.

JudgeJ · 05/06/2021 21:38

Years ago when I was dinghy sailing three or four times a week I used to have very tanned thigh fronts and black and blue shin from banging my legs as I moved about the boat! Similarly my back had a wonderful tan and my front had hardly any colour.

CheerfulBunny · 05/06/2021 21:46

@thenightsky Oo that's interesting! I'm so hacked off with this, I'm pretty sure you can see my shins from space. I resort to that wash off stuff but it can look dodgy if you don't rub it in properly. Or get splashed.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 05/06/2021 21:47

Are you me OP?

I now use a gradual moisturising tan thing that makes them look off white.

Youdoyoutoday · 05/06/2021 22:01

Yep I'm the same, just got back from Devon, caught the sun on my arms and my feet, rest of me is pearly white!

thenightsky · 05/06/2021 22:09

And yet, when you go on holiday, there are loads of French, Spanish, Italian women with lower legs that are the same shade of brown as their arms, torsos, etc.

StoneofDestiny · 05/06/2021 22:20

Shins tan, back of legs never do.

Crabbyboot · 05/06/2021 22:39

I don't know if this will irritate people but...my legs tan amazingly...the catch is my face won't! So I'm golden all over except my face. I don't know what is worse Confused

PurpleDaisies · 05/06/2021 22:41

My shins are find but because I walk a lot which needs proper trainers so my feet are bright write. It looks ridiculous.

NeedToKnow101 · 05/06/2021 22:51

I'm the same!
