Covid rules - creating arguments with DH

Aaaargh-

We've had a few testing conversations since lockdown rules were relaxed - mostly around DH's need to be seen as Mr Socialite and my cautious nature which he sometimes sees as negative!

We don't always come at things from the same angle as a result of this differing style...

Tonight's tension is over his friend arriving from an Amber listed country and DH agreeing that he can come here and spend time with us all and bypass the 10 days isolation. He is happy for his friend and wife and 2 kids to be in the garden here, thinking that's safe as it's outside. We also have three children - one 9 and two under 5.

I'm not feeling this is a great idea but when I've questioned the logic it's been shut down as me being negative - fun police!

He's gone on and pointed out where I've had double standards with the rules by being in my parents house a few months ago.... this is true, I did do that...but the only rule I broke was a travel ban rule between towns.

Would you be happy with the visit to go ahead? Am I being unreasonable in my challenge?

Ah thank you! So no nobody else would need to isolate/quarantine unless symptoms. We’ve all had Covid anyway plus both vaccines by the time he needs to travel.

DeflatedGinDrinker · 04/06/2021 22:55

I wouldn't mind it anymore

TheLastLotus · 04/06/2021 23:01

This is bullshit OP visiting your aged, vaccinated PARENTS is completely different compared to having friends over. Unless your husband was a covert operative and his friends saved his life (or similar) how can people see that they’re not the same thing at all?!

Don’t be railroaded into losing the moral high ground ... friends are not the same as family. YANBU and your DH AND his friend are complete jerks for trying to bypass the regulations. Why people even want to travel knowing the regs (unless to see family ) and then break the rules blows my mind

TheLastLotus · 04/06/2021 23:02

*people not see

TequilaMockingburd · 04/06/2021 23:02

Thank you TLL... that's what I needed to hear! Much appreciated.

Personally I’d report then for breaking quarantine given how fast cases are going up.

He is right to point out that you broke the rules and so complaining when he wants to do the same is bound to create tension.

Daleksatemyshed · 05/06/2021 08:23

New variant cases are on the up and your DH's friends should not be going anywhere until their 10 days isolation is over, it's simple. Tell him no and mean it

SengaMac · 05/06/2021 08:32

"that's fine DH, you socialise with your friends that should be self isolating, but not in our house or garden and make sure to book a hotel for the 10 days so you can then self isolate".

LakieLady · 05/06/2021 08:53

Your DH is a knob.

No-one from a red or amber list country would cross my threshold before they'd completed their quarantine. We know that this government doesn't introduce restrictions until the consequences of not doing so are likely to be disastrous, I just can't understand why people of normal intelligence are so bloody cavalier about it.
