Offer kids Meningitis B vaccine before Covid?!

Meningitis B Vaccination Service costs £110 per vaccination, and the two dose course costs £220. Many teens aren’t protected because it was added for babies in 2015, so you have to pay privately.
Seems mad when Meningitis can kill.

But still enough to kill some young people - with chicken pox combined, more than covid

@Curiosity101

When you balance the risk of men B verses covid though....

My guess is that when you consider the prevalence of covid, whilst it's lower risk of mortality to children/teens, the overall mortality rate for the whole population is higher. Hence prioritising that over something like Men B. It's the needs of the many vs the needs of the few :/

I do understand your point as a parent though.

Yep needs of the oldsters outweighs the needs of the young :/

I'd sooner mine had the COVID vaccine thanks, theyve missed enough school through the disease itself, having to self isolate because of close contacts and school closures (not just lockdowns but due to high case numbers in school). Ds1 has GCSES next year and he needs some teaching.

BarbarianMum I’m not saying I’m against the covid vaccine, I’m saying it’s ethically wrong to not provide vaccines that prevent death when government is able to provide vaccines that prevent further disruption to economic activity or education

Exactly why we forked out the £220 for our eldest who just missed out on the MenB by a year. More than willing to pay £220 for extra protection but fully appreciate many people cannot just fork this lump sum of money out. As my DH put it, we cannot put a price on her life so just do it or we will bitterly regret not doing it should she catch it.
