School kids walking on my front garden wall

Why do parents think its okay to have their kids walk on my front garden wall (2 foot high)....

Whats worse are the kids that sit on the 'pillar' at the entrance to my drive. (A 3 foot high brick pillar with a flat top).

When I was a kid I was taught not to walk or sit on others property. I dont blame the kids so much as the parents. Its drives me nuts. I used to call them out on it, but given up now....too many different/new parents each year.

Or am I the one with a problem?

(I thought living a 100m away from the school would be far enough...it wasnt...)

You might be. I had great fun walking on low walls when I was a kid. Is it actually damaging your wall? If not, I wouldn't get worked up about it at all. Childhood is short enough as it is.... (Runs for cover!!!! )

plinkplinkfizzer · 04/06/2021 17:07

I still remember the utter joy of Mum holding my hand while I walked along the walls ( not brick mind you )😁.

whateveryousay · 04/06/2021 17:07

Can you put some cheap and cheerful planters on the wall? Think YAB a bit U, as kids just having fun, but I would be exactly the same. It would drive me nuts!

Put some railings on top?

justaweeone · 04/06/2021 17:10

Or some spikesGrin

FourTeaFallOut · 04/06/2021 17:11

Meh, it's a two foot high brick wall on the way to school, you'd have to have the self restraint of the Dali Lama to walk past that as a kid and not hop on.

Proudboomer · 04/06/2021 17:11

It annoyed me too so I planted a rose garden in front of it and now parents are not so quick to allow their little darlings to play on my wall.

TropicalFairyCake · 04/06/2021 17:11

But walking on low walls is so much fun as a kid!

icelollycraving · 04/06/2021 17:13

I think it’s in kid’s dna to walk on any slightly raised surface. I think if you find it annoying, add plants, or a little hedge. I like the spikes idea though 😁

NeedNewKnees · 04/06/2021 17:13

You miserable thing! Walking on low walls is such a joy when you’re little. How can you them that, it does no harm.

You live near a school. It’s part of the territory.

Randomo · 04/06/2021 17:13

@MackenCheese

Its a thin single brick wall, so yup. Some of the top bricks have needed to be fixed into place again. (If it was a thicker wall probably wouldnt be an issue).

@whateveryousay

I have tried to do this with plants. Lol, now the kids have only a short stretch that is walkable. What happens now is that they walk a few of the steps, jump off, then jump on again, wall a few steps, then jump off.

It's so rude when people allow this.

warmandtoasty2day · 04/06/2021 17:14

what happens if one of their little angels falls off and gets injure ? Does the owner get blamed ? copensation culture and all that bolly ? it's called respecting other peoples property.

Keepitonthedownlow · 04/06/2021 17:14

It's a bit grinch like to be honest and a sign would just look really naff. If it's that big a deal then you add planters.

BakewellGin1 · 04/06/2021 17:14

Small railings on top or as someone suggested a rose bed Grin

For those saying kids are kids - OP can send them to walk on the wall around your garden Grin

warmandtoasty2day · 04/06/2021 17:14

injured.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/06/2021 17:14

A little sign reading 'Warning: wall unstable' might do the trick. If not, at least they've no comeback when one of the little blighters darlings falls off

Randomo · 04/06/2021 17:16

The thought did occur to me...but couldnt do it in good conscious in case a kid fell in.

Lol, my neighbour didnt have the same ethos as me though....Shock

Do you have any examples of this happening or is this a fabrication to suit your world view?
Levrierssontmeilleurs · 04/06/2021 17:16

I can’t believe so many people think this is ok ?!

It’s your property!

starbrightstarlight8888 · 04/06/2021 17:16

I wouldn't like this either. Regardless of whether kids enjoy it or not, it's your property. Why do parents think it's OK to let their children stand and walk over your property?

Panaesthesia · 04/06/2021 17:17

People are dicks. You can just see in this thread the sort of mother who thinks it's fine for their little poppets to trample on others' property. Yes, it can damage the wall. Our garden walls are old, Victorian and if any little local shite knocks stones off or worse, I'll be suing their selfish parents. Meanwhile, if it drops down on their dim little heads, said parents would probably try to sue me for having an old wall. Also, once they think they can get away with that, they start ripping your flowers up and throwing litter into the garden.

First step def might be some bushes or plants to make it a lot more awkward, and planters on top. But then consider a longer-term plan like short railings or making it higher.
