Giving DD8 a day off for an exhibit

Next week I have tickets to an exhibition that DD would love, I was supposed to be going with a friend but they can't make it.
It's not educational, it's a fun thing.
I'm considering giving her one day off school, to spend with me. We almost never get any time just me and her as I'm a single mum with two kids and virtually no one near by to help out.

Wibu to do this?

I feel that on the one hand, they have missed masses of school over the last year, but on the other, she's bored at school right now because she did all the work during lockdown and they are still recapping now.

Opinions please!

No it was something to do with a treat day at the end of home schooling to make up for a lot of stress if I remember

I do remember the birthday one too

Do it! If a museum is an educational field trip for school a parent should be able to make an educational field trip too.

Yup. She will most likely remember the day for ever.

Sounds lovely 100 percent right to go

In these circumstances I would say the OP should take her. The class are recapping lockdown work and the OP didn't intentionally book the original ticket for term time. These aren't normal circumstances.
In normal circumstances, I'm one of those posters who thinks people taking random days off are unreasonable because the vast majority of the time the students who have random days off tend to be students who are off more than their peers. They also tend to have bigger gaps in their knowledge from more frequent absences.

How can an exhibition not be educational? You can certainly make it educational, as well as a lovely day out for the two of you.

Yes 100%! They are only young once and honestly it goes so fast. It’s so important to do one on one things too when you have multiple children which must be near impossible as a single parent. I have been known to take mine out for a theme park once Grin (pre covid - I wouldn’t do that now with all the school they’ve missed).
