To be desperate to open my bedroom window open

So... in the past 2 weeks, we've seen A RAT in the back yard. IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, I tell you.

I desperately need the bedroom window open at night. It's too hot.

Am really worried about a bare-faced rat climbing in, though.

The window opens out to a slanted roof over the kitchen.

So:

  1. Do I keep the window open and breathe, risking rats entering my bedroom?
  2. Keep it closed and overheat. (I'm menopausal and subject to horrible night sweats)

In any case, wtf are they doing in my back yard at 4pm in daylight? I've put rat traps down but all the bait has gone and the rat just seems fatter.

@RightYesButNo

Just goes to show you how fast things escalate. 4th June: Scared of rats coming through the window. 13th June: Village pets going missing. 22nd June: OP’s village overcome by plague.
Do you have any particularly noisy children living in the village?

You could deal with both problems at once if you get in a man with a flute...

We live in the country. Rats are a thing. We just ignore them tbh.

Oh gosh. We have had rats in the house before. When we first moved in. I put a snap trap down. U noticed it had snapped but no rat . So though oh it must have been kicked or something. Took its to school came back. Under the kitchen bast unit I saw a leather looking strap . Looked under and there was a big dead rat. And another time we was having a sort out in my sons room and found rats head under his bed. Guess that was down to the cat.

Where there are humans there are rats. We've seen a couple of them stroll past the house.

They'll avoid you though if they can help it. Just don't leave food sources about.
