To think something is wrong with me?

Since me and my ex split I've been feeling strange.
Second guessing everything.
Getting to work convinced I hadn't locked my door or left the straighteners on so having to go home to check.

Doing a bank transfer and convinced I put incorrect bank details on.

Yesterday I posted a letter to a company and woke up at 5am convinced I had put my ex's address on the letter.
I've been upset all day today thinking I did that and my ex will receive it and think I'm trying to contact him.
Even tho I can remember writing the correct address on the letter.
It's all I've thought about all day.
What's the matter with me?

It’s common but not pleasant. Sorry you have had a bad time. I would do some googling around it or look for a recommended book on Amazon so you know what’s going on and find some tools to deal with it. Therapies like CBT are good, but it doesn’t sound like you need that.

Sorry you're going through this. This is my life. Doesn't mean it's yours for good don't worry! I just mean that I understand the terrible self questioning - even when you 'know' it's sometimes irrational.
There is lots of help out there, my GP referred me for CBT, which I know helps lots of people deal with similar things.
No break up is good - but was it particularly distressing for some reason? I think for me, ultimately the CBT hasn't worked cos I need to work through the 'why' bit, but that's not the case for everyone.
I really hope you feel better, and it is really good to talk about it, it's more common than you think and people will often understand :)

Anxiety. Hyperarousal - your brain is on full alert for any threats in your environment therefore you're reacting to things you normally wouldn't worry about.

Like a zebra, normally it only runs away if a lion gets close to it, but if its brain was in the same hyperarousal state as yours it would be running away from every leaf that moves in the breeze.

What strategies do you have to soothe yourself?

Yeah it was a pretty nasty break up.
Today's been awful just cried all day thinking I've sent that letter to my ex
Re reading the correct address trying to close my eyes and picture myself writing it out
I'm 99% sure I didn't but that 1% is horrible.
I currently have no coping strategies apart from obsess over thing.
I'm waiting for CBT at the minute through nhs

Great that you've got some CBT booked. To be honest, my sessions were very textbook theory based - the guy was nice, but I think I could probably have got the same from a good book. Not to say it's not a hugely skilled profession and give it the respect it deserves, but Whilst you're waiting it might be worth searching out some stuff online if you can find some reputable stuff that resonates with you.
I've got to the point that I kind of live with it. I know my triggers, so I give myself time for checking.It's by no means my recommendation for anyone else - but I've kind of sat with myself and worked out how to live around it for now
