To do my housework in work hours?

I'm wfh. Work is really quiet at the moment, has been for a while but is supposed to start getting busier soon. I'm sat here all day waiting for some work to do and feel like I just have to sit there and be ready. Is it unreasonable to just get on with some housework while there's no work to be done? Got plenty I could be getting on with in the house and just feel like I'm wasting time staring at an empty inbox.

Not at all, as long as you check back regularly to see if anything has come in

MatildaTheCat · 02/06/2021 09:28

Of course. No point just sitting there. Check back every ten minutes or so.

Shoxfordian · 02/06/2021 09:37

I think it’s fine as long as you’re available if needed

newnortherner111 · 02/06/2021 09:42

Reasonable to me. I am not at work today but when I am, use things such as putting in or taking out the washing to have a few minutes break from a screen.

Lettuceforlunch · 02/06/2021 09:43

I do. If I’m busy I don’t but I’m not going to sit staring into space!

TheGriffle · 02/06/2021 09:43

My work is busy and I still take 5/10 mins while I’m making a cup of tea to put a wash on or empty the dishwasher. I’d spend longer than that in the office making a round for everyone so I don’t feel like I shouldn’t.

That's the best bit about WFH! All the house work gets done and the weekends are free of boring chores. Fabulous.

Burnt0utMum · 02/06/2021 10:01

Thanks for the reassurance! Housework it is! The kids are off for half term so it's building up quicker and I can't stand sitting here knowing there's mess to be cleaned.

Nope not unreasonable at all.
I work in finance and august is a dead month, I used to take some of my paperwork into the office, in return during busy periods I worked out of hours without complaint- give and take

Nuggetnugget · 02/06/2021 10:04

Of course you should. Just check in regularly.

Zealois · 02/06/2021 10:06

I do, it's the best thing about WFH! So much easier to keep on top of laundry these days.

Similarly if I'm called into a large webinar type meeting that only requires me to listen, I'll start prepping dinner while listening.

I do my own "life admin" in the office if it's quite, so when at home working I definitely do jobs around the house. Just make sure all work you do is to the standard expected and done on time.
