This pandemic has made people so rude!

First time since the start of the pandemic I have forgotten a mask anywhere, as I always have 1 in my car, bag or pocket. Today I went to b&q for opening so the shop was empty, realised I didn’t have a mask in my car as I thought so I poked my head round the door and apologised to the lady but asked if they had a disposable mask I could have (or pay for!) as id stupidly forgot mine, only to get an earful and be told I’m the reason covid is still spreading Confused she then started slagging me off to a colleague as I walked off and I heard her say “surprised she didn’t try and say she is exempt”.

AIBU to think some people are going crazy? How are they going to cope when restrictions are completely lifted Confused

And a large number of people are so precious and unpleasant as to make a huge deal out of someone being vaguely rude to them, once, in a few seconds out of their day. Talking about making official complaints....these are not nice people either.

Vaguely rude left when the worker decided to moan about OP within earshot after rudely yelling at her for asking for a mask which most shops do provide and sell including B&Q.

@Thefaceofboe

Absolutely ridiculous. I would complain too. I’m exempt but choose to wear one anyway to avoid peoples stares and nasty comments.
If you can wear one, then surely you're not exempt? The exemption is for people who cannot wear a mask, not for people who share a condition that makes some other people not be able to wear a mask, but who are able to wear a mask themselves.
Tossblanket · 03/06/2021 19:02

Some people are just gimps that want lock down to continue forever.

Love a covid dickhead.

If you read the thread, it’s been explained multiple times by multiple posters. Some people try and wear a mask for as long as they can before having to take it off, myself included. I can nip into the petrol station with a mask on, but I can’t wear one to do the food shop without having to take it off for a bit.

It’s honestly so rude to try and pick holes in peoples stories when they say they are exempt Confused no wonder people feel uncomfortable when they don’t have a mask on.

Compare their cases and deaths to ours
Very selectively chosen to try to justify a viewpoint that is unsubstantiated.

I'm getting rather tired of the claim that some people want lockdown to last forever.

Incidentally I had two very polite and efficient phone calls today from a B&Q employee about an online order and I've always found the staff pleasant in store. I suspect that if this employee was rude she's the exception rather than the rule.

The "I am exempt but wear one anyway" thing. It is true, if you are exempt then that means you can't wear one. But some people find they can wear a mask sometimes, and not be able to wear one at other times. Most health conditions fluctuate.

There is not a list of conditions that means you are exempt. I know a chap who can wear one just fine... he has autism, and has read some people with autism can't wear a mask... so he has self declared himself exempt even though he has no issue with masks. Bit of a piss take.

I used to get wound up by the "exempt but wear one anyway" crowd on FB, as it got used a stick to beat people with. Basically "I am exempt but wear one anyway, so if you are exempt then you can wear one too". You get it in every thread about masks. Someone says they suffered horrific abuse as a youngster, so can't wear a mask.. and someone pipes up saying their 94 year old nan with just half a functioning lung can wear one, so that means everyone else can too.

Oh dear... you guys would be having a field day in the US right now.

Vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks.

So does that mean you cheer for the mask less because they are responsible and got vaccinated or assume they are lying and a mask hater and scorn them...

Then you have the vaccinated people who want to um. I think show they are better than everyone else and where a mask so do we now shun mask wearers because they are unvaccinated or do we applaud them for being vaccinated but still being over cautious.

It’s so absolutely amusing to watch the mental gymnastics play out.

Vaccinated people can still catch and spread Covid. And this division into vaccinated = no masks, and unvaccinated = masks.... just looks like a two tier society to me.

Seeing some of the comments towards unvaccinated people on MN, having a visual indicator of not yet having had it (so wearing a mask) sounds like an utter disaster to me.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 04/06/2021 02:09

@XenoBitch

Ahh but you forget the science now says that vaccinated people don’t need masks. Even though before that they said they do need masks...and before that unvaccinated don’t need masks.

It’s all very confusing to keep track of who to scorn if I’m honest.

They were very rude and unprofessional but
to state that people are generally more impolite because of your one negative experience is ridiculous. And your whataboutery suggests that perhaps their arsehat radar isn’t that far off.

Again they were rude an unprofessional but I have witnessed a staggering amount of entitlement and aggression from my fellow customers and I can’t imagine what it must feel like to be subjected to that on the daily
