Sharing a post from elsewhere.

Did you know? Do you trust them?

--

This has not been widely publicised.

At the moment, you have to specifically give your express permission for your GP to share your medical records with a third party.

From 1st July, all your past, present and future records will be routinely shared with a new service - NHS Digital.

Your GP's system will share all your medical information with NHS Digital - including your NHS Number and postcode.

NHS Digital will take all information, and use it for research, analysis, health policies, information on demographics, locations etc and to share with third parties (but not marketing or insurance, apparently).

They will use a system to anonymise your NHS identification, but reserve the right to de-anonymise it if they need to.

Your GP service will be adding a statement to their surgery to state that your data is shared with NHS Digital.

YOU HAVE UNTIL 23rd JUNE TO OPT OUT.

Elphame actually that rings a bell now

Was it this?

www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/research-and-impact/groups/react-study/faqs/

I remember vaguely hearing on here that people were getting letters when they hadn't volunteered. Is it like that crazy market research thing with people just ringing the doorbell and saying "you have been randomly selected".

Bloody awful.

Elphame · 01/06/2021 11:06

Yes - that was probably it.

If I'd had a letter from the NHS asking me to opt in that would have been fair enough but to give my name and full contact details to Imperial without my consent especially when I have actively opted out of data share just shows how much notice the NHS takes of our privacy.

Frankly the assurances they give you to try and stop opt outs are not work a fig. I guess it's academic as they don;t seem to honour opt outs anyway.

Welcome to our brave new world

Excellent summary. Quite why we're supposed to trust any of this is beyond me.

Even some GP's are not happy about this.
