Care Assistant without car.

Is anyone here a care assistant without a car? Would you take the job if they offered you clients in your area that you have to walk to? But you can go home to rest between clients? Or is it best to work in a care home if you don't drive?

Care home. If you are going home to rest between clients it is a clever ploy on the part of the agency to never pay you for time spent travelling between clients. They only have to pay that if you go from one visit to the next. You could be occupied most of the day going back and forth and earn very little.

Don’t take it if you can’t drive. It’ll have to be in a care home.

Don’t even dream of it if you can’t drive!

We have a local carer for an agency that rides a bike in all weathers! The agency give her all of the centrally based clients and it seems to work well. I wouldn’t be too sure on the going home to rest between patients for the above reason

Similar to PP I used to know someone who used a bike as her transport, but she was situated in an area where all her clients were within a realistic distance (e.g there was a big sheltered living accomodation building nearby). If you can't get something like that, or don't want to ride a bike, a care home would be a better bet.

You won’t earn much if you can’t drive unless you have a lot of clients with in a very short distance. I would go for a care home with out a car.

OP, I used to work on the district when I was a younger nurse. I didn’t have a car at the time, so I took all the clients that were central to our base GP practice, and it worked well on a bike. My colleagues were chuffed that they didn’t have the headache of finding nonexistent parking, and it was a fair division of labour.
Mind you, I had to eat loads as I was cycling up to 30 miles a day, and carrying my nurse’s bag when full of dressings in all weathers was a challenge, but perfectly doable.
We’d agree our visits in the morning, andI tended to plan them so I did the furthest ones first, and worked back towards base, so I had a shorter ride getting back for lunch.
If this isn’t feasible for you, then I’d agree a care home. Good luck!

You’ll earn next to nothing!

Speak to some agencies. You might be able to be teamed with another carer for double-handed visits or to be dropped off if there are two visits near to each other. If you can drive, but don't have your own car, they may have a pool car you can use if you can get to the office.
