I have the sort of job where I'm meant to be juggling lots of little projects constantly. I've always found this challenging but in the past 18 months it's turned from 'challenging' to 'nigh on impossible'. I'm perimenopausal and I have constant brain fog that has turned my working memory to Swiss cheese. At the same time my employer has thrown more and more things into my job role so I'm juggling more than ever. I find it impossible to hold lots of info in my brain these days and I feel like I can't keep up.
I've read a number of articles that suggest human brains are not built for multi-tasking. And that effectively, flitting back and forth between tons of jobs results in lower productively and worse performance. But I don't think I've ever seen a job description that doesn't list multi-tasking as an important key requisite. It feels like employers just want more and more from people. Currently job hunting and the job specs make me feel positively exhausted. I honestly don't think I'm capable of fulfilling the expectations of most employers.
AIBU to suggest that multi-tasking is shite and nobody really wants a job where they are juggling a dozen different things at once?
