To ask to have the delivery placed on my doorstep?

Yeah, first world problem... I know.

But is this unreasonable?

There’s a high step up to my front door (knee height roughly), the delivery driver I often get for Tesco often puts the crate right against it and knocks. I’ve pleasantly asked can he put the crate on the doorstep, instead of in front of it. He refuses. It means as it’s right up against my door I have to hang out the door kneeling to empty it, as the crate is well below floor level to where I am standing. It makes it bloody awkward and undignified. To put it on my step does not require any body part entering my house, except his wrists and hands. I’ve also asked if I can lift it up, it’s a no, I can’t touch it apparently.

So last week I asked him to back up a few feet so I could stand and unload outside the door on the path into bags, then turn round and lift them into the doorway.

This week... he’s knocked and then walked to the end of the drive to wait pretending her can’t hear me over the traffic!

I’ve never been rude to him if anyone is wondering! He’s just so awkward and difficult, I think it stems from him getting in a massive strop the first time he came and he couldn’t find my house and got cross (main road, clearly named, google maps etc is accurate- no idea why he was lost).

How are others finding Tesco bag less home delivery? For me it’s a total faff before all this.

Think you've just got an awkward driver.. Mine leaves it on my doorstep and has also offered to leave it into kitchen as long as no one in house is isolating. I said no as we are trying not to have anyone indoors but was also given the option of carrying box into kitchen myself and unloading. I do just empty it into Hall at door though

I always carry the crates into my kitchen and unload there then hand back to Tesco driver.
I’d not be happy with yours. I’d ring and ask for a different driver next time. Bet anyone else would either lift it onto your step or let you do that. He’s just being an arse

He sounds like he is a pillock who enjoys mind games. I would report him simply because a) there is no need to be a pillock and b) you could be a little old lady who couldn’t bend over.

In the mean time I would pick up the crate if he’s going to wander off to the garden.

I’m finding the bag less deliveries a hassle too. I’ve got long Covid and like to unpack the shopping slowly and at my own pace, which I could do when it was in bags. But now I have to unpack it all while they are standing there waiting for the crates. I don’t care how undignified I look, and sit on my floor in front of the crates!
