To think NO young people should not have to wear masks for hours on end

Just that really I’ve just been in KFC and I saw all the young people (17-21ish) all wearing masks presumably because they had to. Aibu to think it’s frankly ridiculous to expect them to wear masks for hours on end in a boiling hot kitchen and it makes it far harder to do the job?

@MaryBeardsShoes

Most teens and young people I know are just getting on with it and happy to wear a mask at the moment if it protect those around them. It's just the adults who get their pants in a twist about it.
A lot I know are blowing them off, putting them under their noses, sick of getting acne on their faces because of them are realise they are not force fields.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius, get well soon lovely. (We know each other from FB) Flowers

Those nhs staff did not sign up for wearing full PPE for hours and hours on end for over a year etc.

PPE is always required in certain situations in hospital but it was never required full time

Thank you, @Geamhradh.

@saraclara - yes, theatres have air filtration - positive pressure ventilation - but they are still hot places. Our patients are on the table wearing very little under the drapes, and particularly if they are having major surgery, their body core is literally open, so the theatre must stay at a good temperature, so they don’t get chilled and suffer as a result. Even minor OP’s patients can’t do anything to keep themselves warm - they can’t shiver, for example, which is one way our bodies try to warm us up - so again, a good, warm temp is vital.

Add in all the equipment, which pumps out heat, and I promise you it does get quite uncomfortably hot in there.

Not expecting any halos - but I do want to set the record straight.

we younger people aren't the ones who would suffer if we weren't taking precautions.

You're right, the young are completely immune and won't get ill at all. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Againstmachine · 30/05/2021 13:11

@SoupDragon
You wear a mask at home to prep food?

No not me th person said they thought people prepping food should.

Plumbear2 · 30/05/2021 13:33

Nothing makes that age group special. To the poster who said they have had it hard, yes they have but so has every other age group they are not some kids days of special exception. They have to wear masks when preparing food for the public during a pandemic, and rightly so. I'm so glad my teens are not part of this snowflake generation who whines about rights concerning masks etc, thankfully they see the bigger picture and have common sense.

OhGodNotThisAgain · 30/05/2021 13:36

This is mumsnet. There’s a severe mask obsession here. Surely you knew this thread was never going to go well?

Stompythedinosaur · 30/05/2021 13:44

I can't see any reason why young adults shouldn't wear masks while working.

I'm a nurse, I have young colleagues, they wear masks. It's funny how not one single person in healthcare has the mysterious "can't get enough oxygen through a mask" disorder.

I honestly think people need to just get on with it.
