What age did you let your dc play CoD modern warfare?

All my dc’s friends play it (I’ve checked this with the parents!) but I’ve always been really strict about age ratings. It’s an 18 and my dc isn’t 18!

I’ve looked it up and some modes are worse than others and apparently his friends don’t play that mode.

When, if at all, did your dc play it?

Thanks

OhRene is correct it's a taunt used in gaming and although its origins refer to the sexual act its not that in gaming terms.

There was a thread about this recently where someone shared this link that explains what teabagging in gaming is [https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thegamer.com/teabagging-video-games/amp/]

Sorry completely forgot how to do a clickly link Grin

NiceGerbil · 28/05/2021 23:28

If you Google which I just did, the inclusion of this move in cod caused a hooha!

Widely seen as the most humiliating thing you can do to another player.

To have kids learning these terms not knowing what they mean is still shit. It's a sex act- as the most humiliating it ties into homophobia.

Of course some will Google it and what the fuck do they find then? Many kids have hopeless parental locks and of course many have seen/ are interested in porn.

I don't play it my kids don't.

I don't think stuff like this is trivial really even though I know most people do and find my views s bit nuts (pun not intended)!

NiceGerbil · 28/05/2021 23:31

Other posters 12.5 yo on there.

And I'm not saying that is enough! But that the inclusion of that points to a certain unsurprising ideas from the developers. And given its an 18.

I mean I got fucked off by star Trek online :D which I had been eagerly anticipating.

The violence doesn't bother me so much. Torture would.

I don't know what's in it.

I do now know why there was a thread the other day about someone's son getting 'teabagged' at school.

Pinpointer · 28/05/2021 23:36

He’s 15 and a half, pretty sure he’ll be playing it come 16 with or without your permission.
CoD is quite mild and a good game for him to play multiplayer with his friends.

CanICelebrate · 29/05/2021 09:03

Thanks for the comments.
He’s very sensible and is quite an anxious boy so was worried himself about the age rating and violence.
We’ve both researched and he’s decided to get the game but apparently there are less violent modes of play.
Really appreciate all of your comments.

COD isn't really my thing, give me Fallout or Elder Scrolls any day. But at 15.5 I think I'd allow it, also go by what they say on common sense media as they're usually very good.

CoffeeCakey · 29/05/2021 09:06

@Awalkintime

The kids in my school found out about 'teabagging' from COD at 9. It really was disgusting to see 9 year old kids acting it out in their play.
That is so wrong.

I'd say 16 OP. If a sensible 16.

Sounds good to me, if he was worried about it himself he might decide to not play for a bit if its a bit much
LynetteScavo · 29/05/2021 09:11

I'm a really boring parent.

If it's rated 18 I say 18, and be very careful about where younger siblings are.

Your DS sounds very sensible OP, but once he decides it's a bit much, he's already been exposed to too much.

Extrapepperoni · 29/05/2021 09:12

@CanICelebrate there is an option to disable gore as well (on PlayStation you press the options button while on the game - think it's in the general settings but am sure you can Google it to figure out) CoD has violence but no sexual / sexual violence elements. Monitor who he plays with though eg friends only, no audio if playing with randoms etc.

LynetteScavo · 29/05/2021 09:14

COD has learnt to type and won't be pleased posters forgot about her! (She still lurks a bitI think)

toocold54 · 29/05/2021 12:06

I had not played it myself as I heard there was a "rape a prostitute" bit but apparently it's not something the kids know about? (An 'if you don't already know you can't do it' kind of situation). I had a shot of it and it's basically a steal cars, do stunts, crash and beat people up type game so not my fave genre but I wouldn't freak out if DS played it at a pal's.

I’ve played GTA a million times and you can’t rape a prostitute. But you can have sex with one, beat people up, kill them, mug them, steal cars etc so I definitely think you should stick closely to the age rating for things like GTA but with COD I think 15 is absolutely fine. It’s no more violent than playing paint-balling or laser quest in RL as it’s more about skill rather than just about violence.

toocold54 · 29/05/2021 12:07

The main thing to worry about is the chat function and people talking through their headsets as this is where a lot of the abusive language is.

ShowOfHands · 29/05/2021 16:36

She may have learned to type but does she know where Alan Partridge is from yet?

It's not possible to forget her.

All together now 🙏 in Cdo we trust...
