People who left for the worst of it and are now flocking back into the UK

It's unreasonable to be annoyed, but it is a bit annoying. It's also unreasonable that I used the term flocking.

Lighthearted post..

It's not unreasonable. A pity they didn't stay away permanently.

queenMab99 · 28/05/2021 09:57

Where did they go? Mars?

thedevilinablackdress · 28/05/2021 09:57

Worst of what? Who are you talking about?? Where have that been??? What is going on????

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2021 09:58

Who? And where did they go

misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 09:58

Do you mean people who a chance to go to family, holiday home, work abroad or in a nicer place during the various lockdowns?

Good for them.

Unless they have kids at school, most of the ones I know are still away. LIfe is too short to be miserable.

pinkcups · 28/05/2021 09:58

Hahaha

Worst of the lock downs !

They went to other countries that didn't have as strict of a lockdown and were in summer !

Topseyt · 28/05/2021 10:02

If you are talking about the pandemic then I literally don't know anyone who did this.

If I did and they were now "flocking" back it really wouldn't bother me unless they came from countries on the red list and/or failed to test or quarantine as required.

Goodweatherforsnails · 28/05/2021 10:07

Only people I know that did that went back to India and China as they wanted to stay safe and be with family, it wasn’t about avoiding lockdown it was about avoiding the disease. At least one of the people who went back to India was very seriously ill, they have lost family members and they are stuck there for the foreseeable. Quite honestly I think it’s absolutely tragic, not annoying.

shouldistop · 28/05/2021 10:08

I can't imagine there were very many people moving country for half a year at the drop of a hat. They probably went back to their home countries or lived with family which I think us fair enough, especially if they have small children etc.

littlepattilou · 28/05/2021 10:10

@pinkcups I don't know anyone who did this tbh.

shivawn · 28/05/2021 10:11

Of course we would all do this if we could. Are you annoyed that they didn't stay to be miserable in solidarity? Confused

misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 10:12

The only issue with people going abroad is the legal and tax implication for their company having staff working from home in various countries.

That's up to them to address that one way or another. On an individual level, why does it remotely matter?

If you have a chance to go somewhere else, why wouldn't you take it?

cushioncovers · 28/05/2021 10:12

I don't know any.

sonjadog · 28/05/2021 10:13

I know of no-one who did this.

moynomore · 28/05/2021 10:15

Who did this?

LeafCutterAnt · 28/05/2021 10:16

Not as unreasonable as the person who started the post about the "mass evacuation" of London in December 🙄

AllOptionsAreOnTheTable · 28/05/2021 10:18

I don't really understand what you're on about. Are you saying that people moved to other countries during each of our lockdowns? Where was it summer? Who is flocking back? I'm really confused.

MinorCharacter · 28/05/2021 10:25

A lot of people in other countries had much more miserable times. Friends who divide their time between Ireland and Madrid were stuck in Madrid and confined completely to their apartment with three young children and no outdoor space. Friends in Paris had a curfew and had to carry forms when they left the house. My cousin is in Guatemala where vaccination is very slow — only 2% of the population so far.

Triffid1 · 28/05/2021 10:35

No idea what you're talking about. I keep reading articles written by people who left the UK on the basis that if they're working from home they may as well do it somewhere nicer/closer to family, but I haven't actually met anyone who did this in real life.

It's a tiny number.

I have heard that a lot of people who were in jobs like hospitality and retail and came from other parts of Europe went back because they couldn't survive here with no income or massively reduced income so chose to return "home" and live with their parents/family for a while. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Triffid1 · 28/05/2021 10:37

And on my point above. we nearly had nephew have to move back in with us. He was furloughed but on such low pay that he couldn't survive. So he would have had to move in with family (in his case, in the UK but many of his friends were from other countries so would have had to return "home") but luckily, he managed to find a new job that allowed him to work throughout the pandemic.

turkeyboots · 28/05/2021 10:39

Through work I know a man who went off to Mexico after Christmas and is only now planning to return. He's had a lovely time and is still working remotely.
He left his ex and kids in the UK though. Hmm

misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 10:39

Half of my office is still away Grin

The only poor sods stuck home are people like me whose children went back to school!

WHY would anyone choose to stay alone, in a smaller property in London when they have a chance to go with family or friends, in their holiday home, or rent somewhere nicer? Even with restrictions it still make for a nice lockdown.

It only means less people fighting for delivery slots and queuing in supermarkets and chemists. We should be grateful (and possibly jealous) not annoyed.

LindaEllen · 28/05/2021 10:42

YABU and also I suspect you're talking bollocks anyway.

Even countries with lesser restrictions haven't exactly had a ball over the past year.
