I would go down with teenage dc for the day. I've never been. Too crowded? Worth it?

Not on a bank holiday Monday, trains could be packed if they are running, traffic very heavy.

osprey24 · 27/05/2021 14:42

It's a horrible place anyway, go somewhere else.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/05/2021 16:00

I'm not sure I'd go on a Bank Holiday during the first warm spell of the year!

Other than that, I loved Brighton and I'm hoping to go again soon.

Confusedandshaken · 27/05/2021 16:11

I bloody love Brighton, so much so we have a holiday flat near the pier. I steer well clear on bank holidays. It is SO busy. Utter hell. If I'm already down there on a BH (or a Sunday) I hole up in the flat until about 6pm when most of the crowds have gone home. Then, like a timid woodland creature peeking out of its burrow, I venture outside again.

TomNooksbuddy · 27/05/2021 16:21

Arrive early!
Do north Laines then walk down to beach and along to hove lagoon. New cafe Rockwater is fab.
It’ll be busy but fine if you have a plan.

Pashazade · 27/05/2021 16:25

Definitely get down early if you have to come on Monday! The beach will likely be heaving by 11 if the weather is good, the North Lanes are much nicer and will be quiet before midday, although most shops are unlikely to open before 10. Avoid leaving between 4 and 6 if on the train and 5 and 7 if by car.

BlusteryLake · 27/05/2021 16:28

It partly depends on the weather. If it's a nice day it will be heaving.

DrJPuddleDuck · 27/05/2021 20:31

Vote here for the pretty South Laines!

Doorhandleghost · 28/05/2021 06:10

I would avoid like the plague as it will be ridiculously busy in all the places you would prob want to go - weather forecast is really good which inevitably means it will be packed. One of those days where the people from Brighton avoid Brighton as it’s so busy!

JustKeep · 28/05/2021 07:04

I would never go on a bank holiday, never mind the first sunny day after a rainy spell. It will be heaving and horrible. And if you’ve never been before you’ll just be following the crowds with no idea of where you can take shortcuts or find relatively peaceful spots. My friends in brighton don’t really leave their houses on sunny bank holidays as they know it’s not worth it!

dontgobaconmyheart · 28/05/2021 08:15

Yes bit no way on the BH monday during a heatwave. It will be absolutely rammed, and isn't exactly roomy for a city as is. I grew up locally and think Brighton is great, but would avoid it completely in these circumstances (and that's before factoring in covid and social distancing!) it would end up such a drag.

Hairbrush123 · 28/05/2021 09:52

I went to Brighton during the bank holiday in August last year. It was a very warm day there. I caught the train to Brighton and it wasn’t busy at all!

Brighton itself was busy but not heaving as I thought it would be. I think you might be ok but it’s the first warm bank holiday for this year and with the vaccination rollout being so successful - so it probably will be busier. I would still go.

Minstermouse · 28/05/2021 09:54

I’d go somewhere else, really don’t like pebble beaches. There is a Sandy stretch but if memory serves that’s where the nudist beach is, which isn’t really my thing.

As someone who has been to the nudist beach, I can assure you it's not sandy!
misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 10:04

It's very busy at the weekend anyway, so it will be packed on a bank holiday. Up to you if you like that kind of things.

Confusedandshaken · 28/05/2021 10:05

You only see sand at Brighton when the tide is very low. Apart from that it's shingle all the way. It's good that you don't end up walking sand into the house but agony to walk on in bare feet.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 28/05/2021 10:41

Oh god Brighton on a sunny bank holiday I can’t imagine anything worse!
