Is my mum clingy

Basically cut a long story short, my parents has always been too involved and overbearing and its taken years to force my independence out there. Anyway my mum is 55 and doesn't work and makes any excuse not to. She moans constantly and never does anything to make things better. She comes to my house unannounced everyday no txt nothing, says" I'm not stopping" then stays from half an hour to 2 hours and is now starting to meet me on the school run to talk even more and its really stressing me out because it's most times when I cannot give all my time to listen. I have 4 kids and 5 months with number 5 so I'm always on the go and she doesn't seem to see that it's too much. She's easily offended and sulks for days so I don't know how to stop this, is it just me or is this too much?

Far too much. Could you just let her sulk?

FairlyOddmother · 26/05/2021 16:52

Wayy too much. Can you move and not tell her ?

Seriously, have you spoken to her about this? What does she say?
I think you know you need to strengthen your boundaries A LOT.

Royalbloo · 26/05/2021 16:55

I'd go out!

Totalmadness30 · 26/05/2021 17:05

Thank god other people agree, I thought it was just me. We are moving house as it goes but the kids will still be in the same school but I planning on a totally different route to avoid her, but I feel like I shouldn't have to iykwim? This is just the tip of the iceberg so if people think this already then it tells me everything. I don't mind talking to her to lend an ear, but just not at this level, she's very dramatic and highly strung and doesn't make the school run which is already busy any easier, and it's making me snappy at the kids when it's her,not them but I feel awful for pushing her away aswell but as others have said, it's not on.

TBH I would be limiting contact.
Can’t talk now. I’ve got to get the kids to school. I’ll call you later and arrange a time.
She calls round? Don’t let her in. Tell her it’s not convenient.

I think you may need to move much further away! I hope she doesn’t have a door key to yours. She sounds like a nightmare. As she’s only 55 you need to put your foot down now, or you have another 30 years of this stress.
