Doc dilemma, high blood sugar

Sorry, this isn't really an AIBU but posting for advice.
About a week ago I started to feel a bit odd, permanently hungry, eating loads but not feeling full. Over the last few weeks/ two months I've realised I'm drinking a lot more water than usual and, consequently, needing the loo more frequently.
Due to other prescription medication I always have a very dry mouth so nothing new there.
I bought a blood sugar test kit and for the last 2/3 days I've been carrying out the fingerpick testing at various times throughout the day. My readings are high but not massively so. They've ranged between 139 and 174 mg/dl and so are in the 'borderline' category. This morning before eating or drinking the reading was 148
I don't eat a lot of sugary/carby foods and am not overweight so surely it can't be diabetes.
I guess my question is should I contact my GP or should I carry on waiting and testing for a bit longer and see what happens. I really don't want to waste the doc's time if I'm just worrying unnecessarily.
AIBU = Don't call the doc
Not being unreasonable = make the call

I would contact the gp and get checked over, especially if the sugars are borderline! I don’t think it’s a waste of time at all!

See your GP. You don’t have to be overweight to be Diabetic. And you’re probably eating more carbs/sugar than you realise. Morning readings are usually higher. But still worth having a HBA1C just to check.

Of course call the doctor. Those readings seem high for someone who isn't consuming lots of sugar. Being overweight with a poor diet increases your chance if diabetes but other people get it too. My uncle is very slim and fit and always ate healthily but developed type 2 quite young.

Seconding what Papermonster says - you don’t have to be overweight to be diabetic. You could try eating earlier and going for a walk after dinner to try to bring your fasting readings down, broken sleep will also affect it. Try keeping a food diary for a week, you might be surprised at hidden carbs and sugars in your meals.

Some medications can affect your blood sugars too so it’s worth getting it checked out by the dr. Having sustained high blood sugar will damage your body whatever the cause.

Thank you all, I have a blood test tomorrow morning.
