Glass in foot

Happycat1212 · 25/05/2021 21:37

My ds stepped on glass a few days ago but decided not to tell me at the time 🙄 I now can’t see it or get it out, is there anyway to get it out without a trip to a&e?! Has anyone got on tips on how to get it out

Magnesium sulphate and a plaster over the top over night works well

Timeforabiscuit · 25/05/2021 21:43

Second what @Royalbloo said - mag sulphate and plaster.

Dd had glass in the foot, but insisted it was fine, just cut with no glass inside and wouldn't let me near it, so I just did salt water baths and it eventually worked its way out a number of months later, she now admits that letting me keep on with magnesium sulphate might have been a better idea Hmm

Take him to a minor injuries rather than a and e.

Happycat1212 · 25/05/2021 21:47

Our minor injuries is in the hospital and still a 2/3 hour wait, I will try the Magnesium sulphate salt thanks

I got glass stuck so far in my foot as a child I needed an operation to get it out! Minor injuries should be first place to go though.

Happycat1212 · 26/05/2021 21:01

I think that may be the only option now as we haven’t managed to get it out

minor injuries and take books & snacks & backup batteries for phone ...

1Morewineplease · 26/05/2021 21:08

Yep... magnesium sulphate paste from the chemist and cover with a plaster.

NerrSnerr · 26/05/2021 21:10

It really should be seen by a professional and not treated at home.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 26/05/2021 21:17

Please don’t treat a child at home for this (assuming DS is a child).

The longer it’s left the less chance of getting it out without an X - Ray and operation. I did this a couple of years ago. In the end the nurse at the minor injuries unit - with my express permission - had a good dig in with a scalpel. Just as I reached the end of my endurance she pulled it out!

She mentioned that were I a child I’d have been off for minor surgery as it had been days and it had gone pretty deep.

Happycat1212 · 26/05/2021 21:22

It’s not easy for me to get anywhere I have 4 children and a lone parent, If it doesn’t come out with the magnesium over night I will see if I can get him there tomorrow

I had a tiny shard stuck in my foot once it was agony! Minor injuries were great and got it out straight away!

murbblurb · 26/05/2021 21:55

Has to be minor injuries. Tetanus jab may be needed too.

SirenSays · 26/05/2021 22:37

Is it painful? How big was the glass? Could you use a needle and extract it like a splinter?
I accidentally stood on a glass shard and asked my mother to help me get it out. She snapped it off inside my foot by mistake. A year later it gently popped out by itself while I was walking to the loo in the middle of the night. Very confusing as I was so tired, but not painful really.
