To think I'm not going mad! Dislocated little toe.

Not really an aibu so I apologise. I think that sometimes my right little pinky toe dislocates at times then pops back into place. Dp thinks I'm mad I can't have possibly experienced this without having to see a a doctor or nurse even though it's happened loads in the last year or so.

Only my right little toe. I think it's weak and the one I'm most likely to stub.

Usually happens either when I stub it or like earlier I bent it back somehow on the sofa.

I know stubbing a toe hurts like mad but this is insane pain that radiates yo the whole foot and almost burns with pain.

It starts with a click in my little toe and it pointing out of place outwards from my feet.. It gets insanely sore and swells immediately. Also get radiating pain up from my little toe up my foot, ankle. Cant weight gain on my foot and it's very very painful. This first few times this lasted a few hours. Once it lasted a whole day. More recently I've learnt how to deal with it pretty quick. One time it happened before picking dc up. Putting my shoes on (as painsful as it was) pushed my little toe back into place.

It's happened several times over the last year - I need to go doctors but you know covid!

But I've learnt if I wiggle the little toe towards the next toe (usually pretty bleddy painful) it clicks back into place and the pain stops immediately. It's very strange.

When it first started happening it would last hours or days until it popped back in naturally!

It goes from full blown pain to nothing as soon as it clicks back in. It may be niggly for a day or two after but nothing in comparison to the pain at first.

So yeah most pointless mumsnet post ever but dp thinks I'm exaggerating.

I can usually hear the pop when I click it back into place.

So is it possible to dislocate the toe and deal with it at home like I have? Or is it something else?

To add, I fully intend to get my little toe checked out but my doctors are still pretty much not seeing anyone in person unless urgent... it does look rather misshapen as having so many knocks. I am pretty clumsy and need to wear socks and slippers more! 😂

Sorry it's a bit long!

I do this all the time but I have EDS. If it happens strap them together with a couple of plasters, as you would a broken toe.
And yes, talk to the doctor about hyper mobility.

Interesting. Thank you. Both my children have some degree of hypermobility but never thought I could be...

Hypermobility is often genetic, so could well be your children get it from you.

In terms of treatment, a GP probably won't do much, and there isn't a great deal you can do really.

Thanks. Dd had significant issues when she was younger and didn't walk until 2+ and still has issues with walking, gait, tiredness, balance etc now. Her gross motor skills are mainly affected.

With DS it was picked up by an OT his hands and fingers were hyper-mobile which affects his writing and fine motor skills but it hasn't affected him greatly.

Both are on the spectrum ^

I honestly didn't think I could be the same. I will have to look up the signs.

What are potential signs?! I've never really given it much thought but...

I'm only 30 but my knees click like mad and often feel almost like they are coming out of place especially if I'm sat in an odd position. Doesn't really hurt though. I think I hyper extend too like Dd does too.

DD's feet roll inwards whereas mine are outwards. I have super high arches unlike Dd who's feet have been pretty flat until recently.

Dp always tells me my toes are in a weird natural relaxed position like they can never relax properly. They aren't flat down if that makes sense.. but I put that down to wearing rubbish shoes over the years.

I ache sometimes but nothing extreme.

I have major tmjd issues. My jaw problems are so painful.

I've always lacked in physical skills! Things have never come naturally to me... pretty clumsy at times!

Saying that I've never felt particularly stretchy or flexible. If anything the opposite...

Oooo I could have written this post. Happens to me all the time too, it's a right bloody nuisance isn't it!

PottingCompost · 24/05/2021 21:44

Absolutely plausible. Not unknown for people with hypermobile joints to get to know their bodies and to develop techniques to pop them back in as painlessly as possible.

Justilou1 · 24/05/2021 21:47

Me too, but it’s my thumbs that dislocate these days. Also faint in hot weather, etc
