To not understand paying for a voucher to have money off?

Went to a till today in a local shop and asked after I paid whether I want to pay £5 to have £10 off my next shop?
But really i'd have £5 off my next shop as i'd already paid £5 of it. I understand it's £5 extra but I don't see the point?
Anyone explain?

The point is that you save £5. If you so that every week, it’s a saving of £260 which is a monthly shop for some people.

It's guaranteed return custom for a business who has possibly struggled over the last year.
It's an incentive to get customers in the door.
Or if the customers forget they have a voucher the shop is £5 up.
Might be the difference in the shop still trading or being able to keep staff employed.

Sounds like a great deal if you’re a regular shopper

They’re just selling you a gift voucher really, just by another name.

You don’t understand the point of getting £5 back or that you have to pay to get it ?

araiwa · 24/05/2021 07:39

You're buying a £10 voucher for a fiver

What don't you get?

It's an insentive to use the same shop again.

Solves the shop’s immediate cash flow problem, you come back and often when people use a voucher they spend more since they treat the voucher amount as ‘free’ money or feel more open to buying an expensive item they wouldn’t justify with their own cash.

It’s actually quite clever of them to use the same tactics as huge retailers (assuming they are fairly small).
