Has anyone who is currently breastfeeding had the Jag? If so, did u have any side affects on you and subsequently your baby?

aibu for not getting the Jag because of this? It's filling me with a bit of anxiety actually which is unlike me.

I'm getting mine this week when baby is 3 weeks old, I actively wanted to get it so he gets some immunity. I've been really struggling with breastfeeding and have primarily been keeping it up knowing my vaccine was coming!

I'm an immunologist and was desperate to get vaccinated in pregnancy but my gp refused to ok it before the guidance changed. This is the next best alternative

I've had both Pfizer jags. I had the usual side effects of the sore arm and a bit tired. But didnt notice any side effects or impact on my baby.

MonkeyPuddle · 23/05/2021 20:27

I’ve had both doses of AZ vaccine while BFing DD who was under 6mo at that time. Literally nothing other than a slight tender arm. I’m also a vaccinator so felt comfortable with my choice.

@SkodaKodiaq has clearly never been to Glasgow. Its jag not jab www.heraldscotland.com/news/19090594.david-leask-getting-needle-whether-jag-jab/#:~:text=That%20does%20not%20stop%20people,%2C%20it%20is%20%E2%80%9Cjab%E2%80%9D.

I has AZ last week and am BFing my 3 month old. I wanted to have it in the hope that it will confer some immunity to my baby.

Carboholic · 23/05/2021 20:41

Yes, 1 AZ a few weeks ago. Hellish headache for me for about 12h, nothing for the toddler. In good time I’m hoping for immunity for me and at least some for her (as the antibodies have been detected in breastmilk, though I’m not sure how much of that really transfers to 2yolds... )

ThorFull · 23/05/2021 20:50

I never realised jag is Scottish. I honestly thought it was a really common autocorrect. Every day is a school day 🤷🏽‍♀️

ChampionOfTheSun · 23/05/2021 20:54

Had both doses of AZ and BF my 16mo, both of us absolutely fine. I had some chills for a few hours after the first one and nothing after the second. Early research says antibodies have been seen to be passing to baby through breastmilk.

I'm just here waiting for @SkodaKodiaq to come back and apologise for being a bit of a prick

TiredMummyZZZ · 23/05/2021 21:24

I had my first Pfizer jab two weeks ago, i’m breastfeeding my one year old and neither of us had any side effects other than I had a sore arm for two days.

MaryShelley1818 · 23/05/2021 21:31

I had my first Pfizer when DD was 2wks old and have since had my second.
No side effects for either of us. Did not even contemplate not having it, I see it as a duty to my children to do everything I can to avoid serious illness.

shouldistop · 23/05/2021 21:33

I had mine a week ago, breastfeeding almost 6mo ds2. I felt a little rough for a day or 2 (similar to how I've felt some years after a flu vaccination), absolutely no side effects for ds as I expected.

Terriblecreature · 24/05/2021 06:30

Thanks everyone. I know the formal guidance suggests it is fine but I never know what to believe and wanted to know directly from those who have had it. You have made valid points about passing on antibodies so I think I will go for it now. You have helped settle the anxiety I had around it. Thanks again

Me neither, I thought I’ve missed out on my post-jab Jag!
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/05/2021 06:40

I’m waiting until after I’ve finished feeding, I’m low risk so am more comfortable with waiting. It’s a personal choice

BeardieWeirdie · 24/05/2021 06:42

My just turned one-year-old had an epic nap the day after I had mine - was brilliant!

Rememberallball · 24/05/2021 06:55

CEV here and had first dose in February (OxAz) felt flu’y and generally unwell for 3-4 days afterwards. Had second dose about 4 weeks ago and no side effects whatsoever
