I've had ongoing back pain for a few years, it's mainly been down to damaging my tail bone and having SPD during pregnancy so it's normally been around my hips/pubic bone ect. I went in to hospital a few weeks ago because I had what I thought was sciatica and my legs both went numb. I had a full spine mri and they said everything was fine.
However today I have the most severe pain in my lower back, it's not on my muscles or anything it's on my actual spine, like when I press my lower spine the pain is unbearable. It's a constant stabbing feeling even when I'm just sitting still. Please tell me someone has an answer to what this could be as I'm at the end of my tether Sad

Anyone?

i had something very similar... was told it was probably sciatica (no scan or physical appointment) prescribed strong anti-inflammatories and painkillers... after 3 days it settled and i could move and stretch comfortably and am trying to lose weight and do more exercise as lockdown was not kind to my silhouette.... Grin

Macncheeseballs · 23/05/2021 19:53

Sounds like a trapped nerve but no idea, just bumping for you, sorry you're in so much pain

I've been on codeine and naproxen for 2 weeks now and it's getting worse unfortunately. But yes I feel you with the weight gain, lockdown seemed to be an excuse for me to eat everything I laid eyes on Grin so I definitely need to start a new diet (I'll start on Monday Wink)

Thank you for bumping. Trying to deal with this much pain while looking after a 2 and 3 year old is draining me Sad

Go and see an osteopath.

NeverMetANiceOne · 23/05/2021 20:01

You need a second opinion.

Would I speak to my gp about that? When they checked my mri they said there was something very slight on one disk (he said it in a rush so didn't catch what he said but something with a number in it) but said that you could have that without feeling pain so I just assumed that wouldn't be it

This might not be helpful, but I've had chronic pain for the last three years now. Pelvic/abdominal/hip/back/sacroiliac joint. Pretty much all tests have been fine, mri showed some issues with my SI joint. Private physio and Pilates have helped make things more manageable, but I recently discovered an app called curable (they have a website too), and it's eye opening. It's all about the neuroscience of pain, and the mind body connection, and I'm finding it so so helpful with my pain. They have a podcast (like mind, like body) where they interview experts in neuroscience, physical therapy etc, if you wanted to check that out if the app didn't appeal.

Again, it might not be helpful, but if you've had tests which don't show any physical problems, I would really recommend checking it out.

Thank you I will definitely check that out. I have been confirmed with cocodinia(not spelt right probably!) so I have steroid injections for that which help but they said all the found on the mri was something slight one disc. Made me feel like it was all in my head but I honestly have never felt pain like it Sad

I had this. Steroid injections, naproxen and gabapentin but took a while to get better. 2 bulging discs on my lower spine. Still have nerve damage and slight weakness down one leg. Live a normal life now but can't really go jogging (don't like jogging anyway!!) Grin gabapentin was the thing that helped the most. Good luck

I will ask my dr about prescribing that, I'm willing to try anything! Thank you

I would go back (especially as you now have pain) and ask for more info about the disk and ask whether there’s anything that may help, like physio.

I had SPD in my first two pregnancies and a last year back went numb from the waist down for a few weeks, also had an MRI which was clear and the doctor said they think a pinched nerve or irritated/damaged nerve which has healed. I’m pregnant again now and have a strange vibrating in my nerve at the base of my spine when I move sometimes and tingling like carpal tunnel in my hands. They’ve said it may be pregnant related again and I will need physio after and possibly a pelvic x-ray.

Yes I will definitely give the dr a call tomorrow and see if they can help. Just feel deflated as I talked to my gp last week again and they said because there was nothing much on my Mri I shouldn't be in pain. But whilst I was in the hospital the drs picked up that my reflexes weren't working, they sent me for a brain mri but nothing showed up on that either so they were stumped as to what was causing the pain and stopping my reflexes.

Have you been to a chiropractor? I’d look at that.

I have tried a chiropractor a few times recently, it seems to help for a couple of hours but then the pain is back again Sad

Go back to GP and make fuss.

But also go to an osteopath. I had so much trouble with back with pregnancies and osteopaths were brilliant.

Alternatively if you happen to be near cambridge I know a Physio who specializes in pelvic and lower back problems.

cupsofcoffee · 23/05/2021 20:32

Have you asked about sacroiliits?

Good luck! Worth seeing if you can find a specialist Physio, I should think.

But it's really been osteopaths who've helped me most. They find the actual problems - what's pulling where to create the symptoms.

hulahooper2 · 23/05/2021 21:03

Visit an osteopath, I found a great one who helped me immensely

Francescaisstressed · 23/05/2021 21:40

Do you sit at a desk all day? And is the pain lower back/top of bum?
I had similar issues and turned out to be hip pain, as hips were tight rather than a back issue.
I would recommend physio and looking at posture/what you are doing day to day
