So, following on from the other charity shop thread, what are your best buys?

Mine was a vendula handbag for £4 in mint condition which is over £200 new 🥰

A dvd recorder that we had bought for 260 new for a tenner, works perfectly.

A Phillips freevent computer that essentially works off a TV or monitor - £2.36 (from the local auction including fees. All I needed was a five pound amazon cable and its on the TV and working as a streamer and all sorts running Windows 10.)

£8 on a dress for my brothers wedding that was originally 60 pounds.

We paid 30 pounds for a huge bundle of baby clothes new and used from ebay (like a wholesaler type thing) when my brother and sister in law announced they were having a baby. About four bin bags worth turned up and they were amazing. Covered newborn to 3, they didn't have much and it was all good quality stuff too including some branded stuff. We donated a black bag to the women's aid of the girls bits and nephew is still getting use from some and others have been kept for new baby to wear when they arrive in autumn.

Regularly pick up Joe browns things that are a little bit quirky but very comfortable and easy to wash.

Probably a G-Plan dining table for £25 (worth £250-£300), but last week I found an Adidas jacket that's perfect for my niece for a fiver, which I'm pretty pleased with.

FayleWatersWaters · 24/05/2021 13:56

Over the years I've found some amazing buys, but not so much recently. I think more people are shopping in charity shops, and the shop assistants are more clued up to the value of certain items, brands, etc, and probably sell the high end items online or at auction houses (I could be wrong).
I had a beautiful Wheels & Dollbaby dress for a fiver (brand new, the label said "press sample" or similar)
A few Prada handbags and a Chloe handbag.
Probably the best find was actually bought by my SIL, but she ended up giving it to me. A Mulberry Mini Bayswater handbag. She paid £4.50 for it and it definitely checks out in terms of authenticity.

Got a lovely raincoat today for 3 euro. A Jessica Graff one, never heard of it but it's lovely, like new

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 24/05/2021 14:04

Can I ask what charity shops your all going in to bag these? I love a charity shop and a car boot but my local ones have offerings from primark and Tesco's. Grin

ohsuzannah · 24/05/2021 17:19

Oscar de la Renta scarf for £4, it's beautiful!

FluffyRabbitGal · 24/05/2021 18:28

I’m very envious of all of your bargains and have really enjoyed reading about them!! Where I live the charity shops want £9 for primark jeans!

CorianderBee · 24/05/2021 18:35

Mint condition Stella McCartney dress for £25

purdypuma · 24/05/2021 18:47

Love a browse round a chazza, best finds tend to be in small independents. My best finds:
DKNY bag for £1.00, needed a bit of cleaning up.
Planet military style winter coat for £10.00.
Vintage Acquascutum wool lined trench for £10.00, just need to source a replacement button.
Boden canvas trench for £6.00.
Small leather organiser rucksack with lots of pockets for £2.50. Ideal for festivals & taking on hols. Frequently borrowed by Dmum.

Picked up another small leather rucksack today for £3.00 & discovered £1.80 in change in one of the pockets!Grin

Butterfiend · 24/05/2021 19:30

I replied with the same on the other post but my best buys were some Hobbs black trousers for £5 and an Adidas workout type top for £3.
Most chazzas in my area have low end high st or supermarket stuff so you really have to rummage to find the needle in the haystack.

hookiewookie29 · 24/05/2021 19:38

A small brown handbag........in which I found £150 in an inside pocket. Still had the cashpoint receipt wrapped round it, dated 4 years previously!

TheVampiresWife · 24/05/2021 19:45

Genuine Mulberry bag for a fiver (I had it authenticated but I've got quite a few Mulberry bags and know them inside out, so knew it was real)
Max Mara cashmere coat for three quid
Vintage Dior top on the £1 rail (was too small, chucked it in a drawer and forgot about it til I was having a clear out years later, put it on eBay and got £120 for it!)
A Monica Boxley Marianne bag for £2

...and loads more, but those are the ones which come to mind!

onlyhereforthefood · 24/05/2021 20:27

£195 Donna Ida jeans for £2.99
Current season and immaculate

ilovebagpuss · 24/05/2021 20:33

My DD just bought some MaxMara “weekend” jeans for 3 quid they are still on sale online for £160! They look fab on.
I bought a lovely big Hobbs wrap in a gorgeous sage green for about £4

AfternoonToffee · 24/05/2021 20:56

The reason I don't get any bargains is because I haven't heard of half of the names on this thread.

My best find though was an ELC Big Builder Set, the really older version not the newer things, virtually in brand new condition for a £1. It was ds's 2nd birthday present (he is now 13) and I absolutely had my money's worth from it.

dayslikethese1 · 24/05/2021 21:08

I don't think I've ever found anything designer. Found decent hiking trousers for £2.50 though plus a brand new skirt with tags for £4.50 last week.

Butteredtoast55 · 24/05/2021 21:15

Joules wellies for £5 which looked brand new except for a tiny little stone stuck in the sole! Also unworn and still labelled M and S velvet touch opaque tights - 10 pairs for £2. Mundane but such a bargain!

Terriblecreature · 24/05/2021 21:17

What charity shops are you shopping in? All the ones near me are expensive I feel for what you get.

Just the other week I went in for a peek and my son spotted a toy dinosaur. It was a tiny figurine and it was £3. I bought him it but I couldn't believe it. Could probably of got a cheaper one in an actual toy shop

Echobelly · 24/05/2021 21:19

Dries van Noten silk shift dress, barely worn. £6.50. Similar dresses by her cost £700+

Two beautiful artist prints - I saw them in the window of the shop one evening, obviously someone good and expensively framed, £90 each. I looked up online how much this artist's prints went for - usually £800 each. We went back next morning and bought them!

Eileen101 · 24/05/2021 21:25

Where are you all shopping??!
I was thrilled with finding a nice thick wooly cardigan for DS from next for £1.50, in pretty new looking condition Grin

CityCommuter · 24/05/2021 21:29

There used to be a brilliant charity shop on the Kings Road in London in the late '90's. The windows were so well 'dressed' that it actually looked like a snazzy boutique store with the charity shop element being subtle on first glance probably because it was the Kings Road!

I remember a colleague buying an almost brand new Armani handbag for £50 when it originally would have been over £1000 and designer shoes with the tags still on for about 30 quid! That particular charity shop was different in that in only sold high end designer stuff.

Does anyone know if it's still open?

allfurcoatnoknickers · 24/05/2021 21:39

A Pringle cashmere scarf for £5.00, a pair of new Stella McCartney ballet flats and a pair of new Lanvin ballet flats for £20.00 each. All in one charity shop haul. 10 years ago. I still have the Stella flats and the scarf, but I took the Lanvin ones for resoling and the cobbler ruined them.

I also had a beautiful Sonia Rykiel wool skirt I paid next to nothing for, but the moths got it :(. At the same time I bought a French Connection blouse that I still wear today. I got them both in 2012, so it's wearing well.

indy2please · 24/05/2021 21:39

I got a Hobbs dress at Kate Middleton had been photographed wearing and it was sold out and dubbed the Wessex dress. I got it for £5 as it had a small tea stain that I got out really easily

Friendofdennis · 24/05/2021 21:50

I was told by a worker in one charity shop that the manager was buying all the best stuff himself for a small amount and then selling it online for his own profit.
