Going on holiday at 8 months pregnant?

Notgoodenough32 · 23/05/2021 10:48

It's only a UK break to butlins, 4 nights.

I'm due on 30th October but planning to go to Butlins on 6th September. It's the only time DH can get off work that works for DSC too as we don't want to go without them.

Do you think it's a silly idea or manageable?

My only worry is that I have SPD which will probably be get worse by then, but will push myself to go for the kids sake.

Would you?

Yes I would, and have done. I would especially go after the shitty year we've all had when holidays have been impossible.

Take a hospital bag and your notes packed in the car just in case you need it.

Tk5787338 · 23/05/2021 10:51

I would go; you’re in the UK and it’s relatively unlikely you’d have baby early but even if you did you can get to a UK hospital.
I’d just make sure that your DH appreciates that if your SPD is bad then you’ll need to rest and he’ll have to take on the main amount of work with DSC

Pascha · 23/05/2021 10:52

I probably would at 8 months. Make sure you know where the nearest maternity unit is just in case though.

Atalantea · 23/05/2021 10:53

That's not 8 months pg, unless you are having a 10 month gestation?

You should be fine

PotteringAlong · 23/05/2021 10:53

If you do make sure you take your hospital bag and the babies car seat with you.

myhobbyisouting · 23/05/2021 10:54

Won't you be 7 months pregnant then? Yeah, go it's fine.

ThatIsMyPotato · 23/05/2021 10:55

Depends on how keen you are to give birth at your planned place and how you would feel if there were complications and it had to be delivered early or naturally came early.

Notgoodenough32 · 23/05/2021 10:56

Near enough 8 months, rather.

Thanks all. I'm glad the majority would. It's been a shitty year hasn't it and the kids deserve a treat.

My DS loves Mr Tumble and he's going to be there that week Smile

No, not with SPD.

I had it twice and ‘managed’ until about 35 weeks (crutches from 28 weeks, a lot of physio and adjustments at work got me there). It got significantly worse at that point and I could barely sleep or walk. I had to sleep on a pillow structure on the sofa.

Personally in your position I’d let them go, stay home and enjoy some quiet.

GintyMcGinty · 23/05/2021 10:57

You will be 32 weeks so you should be fine. Just take your bag, baby bag and notes just in case.

VimFuego101 · 23/05/2021 10:59

I'd be more concerned about 'pushing yourself' with SPD. Hopefully your DH will do all the childcare and be prepared to handle things solo if needed.

Sorry to hear that Merry, it's a horrid condition isn't it.

I had it with both pregnancies, managed to work until 36 weeks with DS but couldn't with DD.

I managed to avoid crutches and was still quite mobile just very uncomfortable.

I'm seeing my midwife this week, I'll see what she says.

We have holiday protection so can take me off the booking without too much fuss if it gets too bad. Hope not.

I would, as long as your DH does his share of laundry/packing/general preparations and of course childcare.

BeesAnkles · 23/05/2021 11:03

I would. I had something similar to SPD in my last pregnancy and needed crutches. I ended up hiring a wheelchair for a mini-break. It was only about £30 for the weekend and it was delivered to and collected from the hotel. It was great to have as backup.

rooarsome · 23/05/2021 11:04

I would and have done. I hired a mobility scooter in Butlins due to my pelvic pain and we had a blast!

Blughbablugh · 23/05/2021 11:06

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and currently on holiday in Cornwall. I'm measuring big and can't walk very far but my husband is entertaining our 4 year old whilst I mainly sit and relax.

Notgoodenough32 · 23/05/2021 11:07

It didn't occur that I could hire a chair or mobility scooter, that's great.

Oh I'm excited Smile

I hope you're having a nice time!

DH will definitely be taking the lead with the children too.

IND1A · 23/05/2021 11:11

Honestly I’d send your husband with the children and stay at home and rest.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 23/05/2021 11:15

UK break, probably ok, but be prepared for it to be cut short for appointments. We went away when I was a similar gestation (35 weeks) and ended up having to come back early for a scan and hospital appointment as I was being monitored for growth. And then I ended up with a last minute planned c section a few days later because they wanted baby out. Things can change quickly at that stage.

supersonicginandtonic · 23/05/2021 11:20

Go! You can't spend the last weeks of your pregnancy stick at home, it's not good for your mental health.
Butlins is easy to get around and like others have said, you can hire a wheelchair if needs be.
In regards to missing appointments, why not just book the holiday around them or if booking them, say I can't that day I'm away 🤷‍♀️
Your little ones will really appreciate the family time before things change for them.

Notgoodenough32 · 23/05/2021 11:37

That's what I'm thinking Sonic.

My MH hasn't been fantastic lately, not helped by being stuck in for the best part of a year, so I think it'll be good for me.

I drove from Spain to England 20 days before dd arrived on time!!.
Shock

newtb · 23/05/2021 11:40

I lived in Cheshire and had to work at Hangar Lane from 32-34 weeks. The weekend in between I went to France for the weekend. However I didn't have spd but was born at 32 weeks so was a bit concerned. Was all OK and dd arrived on due date.
