To ask how much weight you can really gain from one bad day?

I must have eaten 1500 calories over what I should have today. Probably the worst day diet wise in a long time. Has anyone ever had a very bad day and noticed a drastic change, or does one day not really matter?

1500 calories is less than half a pound so will barely make any difference at all.

The problem is if you feel rubbish about yourself for having a bad day and so eat to cheer yourself up and have another bad day. And another. And another.

So think - “oh bother!”, go for a walk / swim / run / bike ride / whatever to work some of it off and then forgive yourself and move on.

A cheat day once in a while won't undo weeks or months of healthy eating and any weight gain you see in the next day or two will be water rather than fat, once you go back to your usual eating plan then that will disappear fairly quickly.

Cheat days are like Jelly, the trick is to not let them set.

I can gain 7-10lbs over a bad day, mainly water retention or something, but as long as I revert to my healthy eating it all reverts back, I might gain that week but the overall trend is the same.

Approximately 3500 excess calories results in a pound of fat. 1500 is 3/7 of that figure, so as someone else mentioned would be just under half a pound. Not an exact science by any means but a widely cited figure. Nothing to get upset about it probably tasted great!

The scales might go up by several pounds but it's not fat so you don't need to worry about it.

As a PP says, it's going to be less than half a pound so barely anything.

Weight varies quite a lot in the short term so it's best to take notice of long term trends and less of day to day variations.

As far as 'good' or 'bad' days are concerned, as long as you mostly eat well, the odd slip up doesn't matter, the 80/20 rule at work if you like.

After all, it's best to view it as a lifestyle change rather than being on or off a diet, as it's likely that it will be more sustainable long term.

Ten pounds in a day? That's 4.4L of water, seems pretty unlikely without administering some sort of drug or entering an eating competition

Nothing unless it's really salty. That makes me hold water or something. Which goes away day or two later.

I can move up to 3kg within a day and that's why I don't weight myself daily anymore😂

TinySaltLick · 22/05/2021 18:38

Hmm maybe 10lbs is less unlikely than I had expected then. I retract my previous statement.

Bodies are practical jokers with very bad sense of humour🙈
