To think I have to buy friends child another gift for a rescheduled birthday party

My friend who's children play with mine, little ones first birthday was cancelled at the end of last year due to covid. She's now organised another to make up for it. Aibu to think I can't turn up empty handed so need to buy another small gift? There's also an older sibling so seems abit unfair if I buy for one and not the other...

What's the protocol here?

No I would t but I would make sure I dropped into the conversation the gift you got before. I would take a card and Maybe sweets.

No I wouldn’t, they’ve already had their present. And I never buy for another child, its not special for the birthday child if you buy for everyone.

I'd buy something very small (maybe sweets or a book) and mention when giving that you know they weren't expecting gifts given that you'd given one already, but that its just a token

^What is the point having a birthday party 5/6 months after the birthday?

I wouldn’t buy another gift or buy sibling a gift

I wouldn't buy sweets if they are 1 unless you've seen them eat them. Maybe a book. But if you've already given their birthday present I wouldn't be expecting anything else.

I wouldn't buy sweets if she's only 1. I'd buy a book. I'd only tolerate this because it's first birthday otherwise I'd think a rescheduled celebration was unnecessary altogether.

I think people are being a bit mean about a rescheduled party. My daughters party was cancelled due to the lockdown and I promised her we’d do as soon as we could.

Surely if the child is one year old, they wouldn't realise you had brought/not brought a present anyway. It would just be for the sake of the parents really. I wouldn't buy another gift. And I agree with others who don't buy for a sibling. It's not their special day.

I think as the child is one you’ll get away with not buying a second gift. Would also be a bit ‘grabby’ of the parents to expect it given that the birthday was 6 months ago. Perhaps your friend is using it more as an excuse for you to get together.

As its the child's 1st birthday surely they won't care/remember. Agree different for older child maybe.

Actually given that the person giving the party is your friend, I would be more inclined to turn up with a bottle of fizz and have a glass with her at the end of the party! 🍾 🥂

I think this is a bit quibbley really.
It’s a one year old child ..are the presents you buy really so elaborate that the thought of giving something extra else causes an issue?

It’s bad form to turn up to the party without any gift as they are hosting you.. so you could take a ‘family gift’ like flowers.

But I would give a book.

Bubbles is a great idea. You could get for both children. And I’d maybe get a little book or maybe a tshirt for the child whose party it is. Depending on your budget. I know not everyone can afford to do that. If I did get something else I would say something like “I know I already got X a present but I saw this and thought it was cute” or “I know I already got X a gift but wanted to just get something little”.

I would never buy the sibling a present. It’s the birthday child’s special day. I don’t think you need to buy another birthday present.
