Son in Warwick uni needs dentist

Hcmrs · 22/05/2021 06:50

Hi, my son is in Warwick university and has a toothache. Of course that's happening when he's in exams so coming home to see his dentist is not an option. Please can anyone advice on where to go/what to do? One dentist he rang didn't have availability for weeks. TIA

He rings round local dentists?

Cleverpolly3 · 22/05/2021 06:54

When I was there there was a famous dentist. Mind you that was years ago.
Leamington Spa or Coventry both close by bus they will have one

Cleverpolly3 · 22/05/2021 06:54

Not famous campus FFS

Northstar1234 · 22/05/2021 06:54

Tell him to call 111 they will have a list of emergency dentists in the area.

Cuntryhouse · 22/05/2021 06:57

Park road dental near Coventry railway station is good. You would need to pay private.

Cuntryhouse · 22/05/2021 06:58

If nothing through 111 he could try getting some painkillers through them.

Darkrainbow · 22/05/2021 07:01

You could try via 111 but availability is limited at the best of times or try ringing around local practices. As a unregistered emergency patient I'd expect to be paying around £150 for a private get out of pain appointment.

BritWifeinUSA · 22/05/2021 07:03

Do any local ones offer a pain clinic service? I went to one years ago. All they do is deal with the pain until you can get a regular appointment to have whatever work needs to be done. But at least you’re not in pain while you wait for a regular appointment.

joystir59 · 22/05/2021 07:07

How come your son doesn't know how to sort this out himself? He needs to ring 111

Nothappyland · 22/05/2021 07:27

Its the weekend so probably would need to go through 111 anyway to sort something out of hours, but on Monday depending on what’s sorted today I’d recommend ringing and trying to register with a dental surgery in Leamington Spa. That’s where a lot of students live in later years (myself included when I was in uni). I used Bridge Dental Practice there and it was always very good.

Shinyflowers · 22/05/2021 07:35

If the dentists are anything like where I live, he will have to pay for an emergency dentist. The NHS waiting list is months, if you can get one to agree to see you.

Shinyflowers · 22/05/2021 07:37

111 don’t have a clue they name any local NHS dentist who say they can’t see you when you call. I’m still waiting on a call back from 4 months ago!

Voomster953 · 22/05/2021 07:40

😂 I’m sorry OP, but this is pathetic. He needs to ring 111 for an emergency appointment, or go to the campus dentist.

redfairy · 22/05/2021 07:47

Bandals. It's not too far from Coventry city centre

lostitall · 22/05/2021 07:48

YABU

Seiheiki · 22/05/2021 07:50

Abbey End dental practice in Kenilworth is good. He'd need to get the bus to Kenilworth and get off either at Abbey Hill or the clock tower Kenilworth. It's a 30 second walk from either bus stop to the practice.

Lockheart · 22/05/2021 07:54

And googling local dentists and calling those didn't occur to you because...?

Geamhradh · 22/05/2021 07:54

Tbf, the fact the OP is having to ask MN what to do doesn't bode well for the (adult) son's ability to Google dentists, does it?

Rillington · 22/05/2021 07:56

I second Bhandal's on Foleshill Road in Coventry.

ssd · 22/05/2021 07:57

Oh stop giving op a hard time. Shes probably just asking if posters have local knowledge of the area and can advise of an emergency dentist

Shinyflowers · 22/05/2021 08:00

Have any of you tried to get a dentist appointment in Covid times? My son has has 3 infections and still no appointment. Signed with NHS dentist in March, 1st appointment is July. They said they wouldn’t see him in an emergency unless he paid. Actually got the last lot of antibiotics from the GP

imaginethemdragons · 22/05/2021 08:01

111 do have a clue, they have a list of emergency dentists.
They can also advise re painkillers and how to safely manage pain.(without people taking massive overdoses of painkillers....which they do out of desperation)
They also have a dedicated dental line due to the humongous volume of calls they get daily to do with dental issues. (Literally thousands a day).
He needs to ring them himself though, they won’t speak to you.
Hope he gets some relief soon.

User0ne · 22/05/2021 08:06

He should take painkillers to start with. Cocodamol can be bought over the counter if he's in real pain.

If that's inadequate then he he should use the site below to try to get an emergency appointment.
www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-dentist

ChewedClickyPen · 22/05/2021 08:19

I live near there but gave up trying to get a new dentist when I moved here last year and have stuck with my original one in Sheldon, Birmingham on the A45. I know they have appointments now as I had to change mind last minute and they are great. NHS too. White Pearl.

londonrach · 22/05/2021 08:23

Ring 111. Then look at dentists in Warwick, Leamington, Stratford or Coventry. The Westgate one in Warwick is very good but be closed now but might have sos phone number. I'm sure your son can google local dentists. Might need to ring 20 dentists as its Saturday and alot are not taking on new patients at the moment hence why 111 might be better.
