Today I arranged to meet a friend for lunch.
It was pretty overcast but mild.
She text saying "I look like a tramp today but I don't care"
I replied "don't be silly you always look lovely"

I wore a blazer, tee ,jeans and trainers so nothing fancy at all.

Walked up to her smiling and I didn't get a hello I got a
"God your dressed up a bit fancy aren't you,Jesus christ"

I didn't know what to say so just said "no not at all, just shoved my trainers on"

She replied "well I can be walking around like a tramp and still get attention,I don't need to dress up for it"

I didn't know what to say so just smiled and she then asked what I was smirking at

Basically the day was a bit of a non starter

What did I even do?

I'm surprised by the amount of people who think what she said was acceptable. I get she probably was having issues with self esteem etc but that is no excuse for trying to put a friend down.

I agree.
Yes it sounded like she is going through something if this was unusual for her but it’s still no excuse to be rude to your friend.

@AmyandPhilipfan

She sounds like a right bitch and not someone who I’d be bothered about losing a friendship with.

Some people make everyone situation about themself.
I'd have agreed she looked like a tramp and was a cow too.
Ignore her jealous outburst.

YABU for staying friends with a twat. Ditch.

I think she sounds insecure. I used to work at a place where we had to dress very plainly and practically, the usual thing was comfy black trousers and a t shirt, nothing fitted or revealing. My friend once asked me to go shopping with her straight start work that day, I said OK and went along. We got there and she said she was just popping in the loo, she was about ten mins so I went in to see if she was OK and she'd changed into some really smart jeans, a revealing top and she'd put makeup on and let her hair down! I was a bit surprised as I thought we were only nipping to sort her an outfit out for the following night, no need to dress up. I definitely felt a tramp next to her 🤣

Horribly jealous of you OP and keen to tear you down for it. Better off without.
