We've got some work that needs doing in our garden, I started and it took ages to make very little progress and now I just want the job done. I got somebody in to quote who was recommended by someone we know and he was very professional and friendly, showed me examples of his work and had done his homework on what I wanted before turning up. He's quoted £950 for 3 days work which was in line with what I expected. DH cannot believe I'm prepared to pay this much for the work and is angry because in the past I've always asked he gets a couple of quotes to compare (usually bigger jobs or less defined what needs doing) so he's throwing out the hypocrisy card.

AIBU to just book this person in to do the work? I could take a week of annual leave to get this job done and it wouldn't be up to the same standard. For info we both work FT and have shared finances, we can afford it but it would push other jobs that need doing down the list that DH considers more of a priority.

For a second question, is it normal to go back and haggle? I can't see the point of upsetting the guy for the sake of £50-100 but if that's what is usual then I would do so to compromise with DH

If you're happy with the quote, he comes recommended and can do the work in the timeframe you want, I'd be snapping his hand off. It can be really hard to get decent trades in so yes, I'd just book him in.
